Chest pain after Prednisone

 

Ok this is the second time ive had severe chest pain after ive been off my Prednisone for a few days. Just had a massive chest pain attack, my heart, neck and jaw hurt. A stabbing, shooting, pain that goes through to the back and in my neck and jaw. Its a gradually gets worse from beginning to end of episode. If i try to stay calm and breath myself through it, it slowly goes away. I have had 5 attacks now, and im terrified everytime. I can't afford to go to the ER unless im absolutely dieing then no choice. No medical insurance, i have to pay cash ack. So ya im a bit worried. Im thinking the RA has started attacking my heart.

Has anyone had this problem?

Morticia.. you need to get that checked out.. and soon.. RA can affect your heart.. this is not something that should be taken lightly..

ugggh thats not what i wanted to hear :( If it happens again ill go. Cant afford it but ill go.

morticia as far as my doc has told me you can not aburptly stop prednisone or it can cause issues..... did you wean yourself off ????!!!!!!!!
it takes sometimes months to wean down from a high dose. if you stopped abruptly i think that may be you problem? i would let your doc know via a phone call or ask your pharmasicist.

Yalinda, ya i weened off it as i was instructed. Im thinking the pred is just to strong for my ticker to handle. When i was on it about 6 months ago, i had the same chest pains after i finished the cycle. I think im ok now, its been a few days now and no more chest pain. Im gonna tell the doctor about it, no more prednisone for me.

Dude. Goto BCBSM.com and buy some health insurance. I have all kinds of preexisting issues and am over 40 and I pay $220 for an insurance policy which covers my hospital ER visits 100%. I know about being broke but ante up the $200 - I think I paid just $130 to get the policy going than get to the ER. Also try ehealthinsurance.com - That may have been where I originally bought my policy from now that I think about it. What good is money if you're dead? I think I'd rather have bad credit and alive and getting treated than good credit and dead. 

Well, this thread has been dead for awhile but I had to post this.

6 day pred for tendonitis in hand, gave me swirly soreness all over chest and back, thought it was indigestion. Was so intense wife and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I'm 39, by the way.

3 days after scrip ended, sharp pins in upper left chest at 3am. Only a second long, maybe every 10 minutes. I waited it out. After a day, was still there, plus a flushed sort of feeling on that side. Off to the ER. Vitals, EKG, x-ray, all was fine. Went home.

Two days later, just watching tv, now a tiny pressure on the chest, mild sensation in jaw, tingling in left bicep. Back to the ER. 3 days there, stress echo, regular echo, CT, tons of blood drawn. I'm fine. Everything's good with the heart. Thyroid a lot lower than should be, but everything else fine. Go home. Told the usual about changing diet, lose about 40 lbs, thyroid meds.

Here I sit, those little pulses to my heart area still going on, every few hours for a couple minutes. So even if this post isn't seen for a couple of years, hopefully someone I know will update if I'm expired or not.

Oh, and my hand still hurts.
