Hi everyone,

Just a few questions for those on Enbrel? After the first injection did you have some sort of rebound? I'm not sure if it is because of the injection of Enbrel that I had or if I am just in a flare because I had a cold or whatever it was but I have a temp with pain in my elbows, knees, and my hands to the point that it was difficult to drain my pasta while fixing dinner.  I have never hurt this much before and I was wondering if the Enbrel can have a rebound or maybe from not taking the plaquenil...sorry just wondering why I have a temp and hurting and if anyone else ever has a fever with their flares??

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say hello. hope everyone is doing well. me, well, not so well. Feelin kind of blue but trying to shake it. Hoping for warmer weather and seeing green, as in grass, trees.
Saw my Md today, he's sending in a consult for psych. Other than that no changes. Kids are on the March break and it's nice to have them home. We went shopping and out for dinner after my appointment today and had a really nice time.

well moanin everyone.

raven so sorry you are blue. it has been a late and long winter for us in feb and march we so ned sunshine for our emotional health. i dont know if people who have always lived in sunshine relize how depressing march is for us in the cold north. i hope you see sunshine and green grass soon too!

mom i am gonna tae my shot heck i'll do it now on line as i type teehee. ok maybe not but i dont recall that but i vagually recall my shoulder really hurting when i took it and then like magic i was able to use it and i think i said to myslef that i thought what i felt must have been it attacking my t cells???? funy but i vaguely recall that the first few times. hmmmm i will let you know i take it this am.

ducky thank you for your expert policing! you never let us down, but how the heck are you!!!!!!!!!! you hear fromerin? i sent her a email and i got no reply yet? hope she is ok. i really need to phone her but after my last ticket i hate talking on the cell driving cuz i am not hands free and that is another fine and another 200 i dont have. so i have to be good for a couple of years. lol let me know if you hear from her.

yally...i am so ashamed our governor had sex. now the whole world knows that people who live in new york have sex. what a scandal!

i am so proud that i came down with herpes (shingles is in the herpes family) and i did not have sex. perhaps the headline of the daily news should say: one new yorker did not have sex and has still suffered.

these are my final words on the whole ghastly affair but what is your opinoin? eyes eyes eyes

Joan, I am a New Yorker too, although forced to live in exile close to DC. All I will say on the issue is at least he wasn't asked the definition of "is".

Yally, I'm doing great-I discovered that although we may have five days in a row of terrific weather I can only walk a mile three of those days then must take a break. My knee has a reliable protest.

I see my rhuemy later this month and am trying to think of a dialogue that will convince her-all at the same time- that I need to stay on pred -but, I don't need methotextrate? I may have to keep thinking.

o/t My niece is about to graduate from high school and she got accepted at liberty University and tried out for one of their choruses. They asked her for a demo CD which means she made it to the final round we find out in about two weeks wether she made it. If she did it means a full scholarship, tuition, room/board, books etc.

Raven, I hope things start looking up for you soon.

wow great news hopefully sj.... u know pred is more dangerous a med to take than mtx is i think? you can not stay on pred forever as far as i know.

joan, i think all men are pigs lol and all they think about is when where and how. not who or why just where when and how! hey the new guy is legally blind! great for me!

mom no side effects all from my enbrel shot. how are you doing???? when do you see your doc next? do you think you should call?

Hey all.. am here.. just really busy.. they have started up my Medical Board stuff again.. so I've been jumping through hoops with that.. hubby's home, so there seems as though there is always something to do.. kids.. sheesh.. kids.. I can't wait for spring break so I get a break! Their homework is excruiating sometimes.. and yes, am in another flare.. this one I thing is brought on by my allergies.. I haven't started taking the MTX yet, as I am awaiting to hear from my rheumy.. I have a couple questions about the daily preventative I am on for my UTIs and my migraine medicine.. although I don't have to take that every day, I don't know if it will interfere with it.. hhmm.. so still on hold with that one..

Yally, No, I haven't heard from Erin in quite a while.. just a couple emails that say, hey I'm ok, and at Joes, but nothing to extensive.. I too need to call her, but I don't have Joe's number.. hhmm

Jody, I got your card and your email.. you are so sweet.. I'm good, just seems as though I don't have time anymore to scratch my butt.. I feel so rushed and like my life is in chaos all the time.. :( yuck..

Ok, speaking of chaos, I have to go back to the grocery store 'cause I forgot 2 of the main ingredients of all the stuff I'm cooking today.. I was hungry so have about 3 things going at once! Ha!

eyes   eyes eyes i have heard that the new governor is going to work for the blind and disabled which actually is a very good idea.  i think old elliot had the "screws put to him" (both figuratively and literally).  i was very upset when all these pontificating christians just gave him 48 hours to resign.  they said that they wanted to work on the budget but the budget has been behind many years for months and months.  think there are more hard times ahead for the regular folks. 

get to see my regular doctor on tuesday and hope to get some good advice.  this lyrica is making me so drowsy...hope i don't fall asleep waiting for him yeah yeah yeah

Yally, Yep, theoretically I know that the pred is more dangerous but I feel so GOOD! I actually will bring up finishing the taper when I go in even if she doesn't bring it up. (but, to satisfy the irrational side of my brain that is convinced that if I agree to go off pred the whole world will run out of it, I will also have the pharmasy fill at least one more of my refills)

Yally...I also decided to take the Enbrel on Friday and it seems that my batch of free auto injectors are bad because none of the buttons would push down on them and I ended up trying to use two, to no avail.  Finally had to get out the premeasured syrynge's, warmed one of those and then THAT wouldn't work either!!! The needle had a clog in it this is

 what my husband told me later...so finally on the fourth try and sweating buckets at this point because I"m such a needle phobe..I gave myself a shot of Enbrel.  I felt great Saturday and Sunday but for some reason now on Monday the weather is crummy and I hurt! It feels as someone has punched me in the back? So the Enbrel lasts about two days :)  I go back in a month to see the doc and will hate to tell him that not even shots of Enbrel put me out of my misery sad

Sj...I did that too with my prednisone, getting one last prescription filled :-) and I know you feel great on it but I will admit on the higher doses my face would get flushed, I had hot flashes and my family told me I was cranky...but I sure didn't hurt! I hated giving up the pred too.  Hang in there!

Hello one and all and welcome to the wonderful world of hands-free typing

although it isn't the wonderful world of correct grammar and spelling but so far so good.  But there is now fully ensconced in its new cave and having all that space still doesn't alleviate the problem when the wicked witch of the West comes visiting also known as the sister-in-law.  It appears to be no hiding place and that particular will-o'-the-wisp is around but apparently it comes with the territory when one lives with one's mother-in-law.  Ho-hum these things are sent to try us boy are they really trying.  I'm hold of at the moment in what is the only room left with packing cases in it sitting on a chair with my computer on the ironing board talking to you all.  It's the only guaranteed way of me are causing world War three with the in-laws.  I am a refugee in my own home at times but what the hell life's too short to get angry-ggggrrrrr, woof woof.

 

I hope this missive finds everyone in good health, well as good as can be expected with rheumatoid arthritis, equipment that doesn't work, scripts that run out, scripts that get cancelled, and scripts there simply aren't enough.  Although I don't have rheumatoid arthritis like the rest of you I can empathise having a condition that seems to wake up every morning and try something different.  It is said that things like this can only make us the stronger for it will if that's the case plenty of you people must be the strongest people in the world.

Anybody heard from e rin?  Duckey said she had heard from her last week or so but has there been any hearings on since?
boo are things going in Oklahoma?  Seen any floods lately?
Sorry to hear you are not doing too well lately my apologies for not mailing when I said I would but I promise I will mail this week.
I can't name everybody here because my software simply won't do it what I will do one day is name everybody and see if you can all guess who you are and what appears in print but I will have two dry run its first to make sure that what is printed doesn't offend or insult even though a fence and insults can be quite funny at times.  See what I mean?  Spot the deliberate mistake ha ha!

What hope is there a woman or a black American president in 2009?  Is America ready for it or will they true to form settle yet again the GOP?  The chances are there are real change will the people grasp the nettle or fearful of being stung.  It's getting quite some re portage over here and it will only be more so as the year progresses.  Observers in the UK see this as a real test of the American electorate.  Without wishing to be party political how do you people view it?  Will this get past the thought police?

I leave it there as I am now very tired as my Parkinson's is starting to cause insomnia which normally would be alleviated by a kip in the afternoon but as I am now back at work this is not possible under normal circumstances but I have come home early I will now sleep

Happy St. Patty's Day!

In honor of the day, going to try Erin's green ink...are there any Irish among us?  We are a tad bit, but more Scotish than Irish..  So, the corned beef is in the slow cooker, waiting to be joined by the cabbage, carrots and potates.

How was everyone's weekend?  We got to get away for a bit..spent a couple nights on a river a bit north of here ( Hey Yally, got flip-flop tan lines on my feet heehee).  There is a natural spring there, and we anchored a boat at the springs for a few hours Saturday afternoon.  Watched the manatees and dolphins swim, was very relaxing.  Water at  the spring stays 72 degrees all year round, so, although that is a bit too chilly for me, there were alot of people swimming and diving there too.

Now it's back to the real world of work, diapers, dishes, and babies.  Was so nice while it lasted though. Not anywhere near as nice as the place you were at Ducky....that was just plain breathtaking!!!

Sorry about the family tensions, Bear, you are doing such a wonderful thing for your mother-in-law..I can't believe your sister-in-law- isn't falling all over you in gratititude.  But, seems every family has one, or two or three.  Just don't know how some people's minds can function the way they do.  Any prospects of selling the other place you were in?  Don't know if real estate is as bad there as it is here, but I sure hope not. I can't believe the "for sale" signs that line the streets these days.

Raven..how are you dear?  Are your kids still home from school?  Mom, can you get those Enbrel injectors replaced?  Gosh, those things are so expensive!  I hope they would fix that problem for you....keeping my fingers crossed until Friday...I acutally WANT to get in to the doc this time.   When do you go in sj? Never was on pred myself, sort of glad after reading all you guys post about it....think it scares me more than the mtx does.   Joan...how are you?  Christina and morticia...haven't seen you guys either..hope all is well.

Duck,  hope you get some time to take care of those essential things in your life heehee..seriously...take care of yourself, dear...you know we need you around here..

Hello! hello! hello!  I'm finally here again!  So good to read everyone's posts.  Joan, you're so funny....folks in NY having sex and all.  The Gov sounds like a friend of my hubby's.  Ooops!  Sorry about that.

Bear, so great to see a post from you.  I hope you're settled in and comfy.  Just remember while the Witch is there, "this too shall pass". 

I'm doing pretty good, I guess.  Have some really low days and wonder if I'm doing the right thing by staying.  If wedding vows are broken can they ever be "fixed"?  That's the kind of stuff that goes through my head. 

With meds adjusted I'm still losing weight.  I was 160 lbs. at Christmas.  Now at 126. 

We are about to have some real bad weather, Bear.  Severe thunderstorms and possibility (always in Oklahoma) of tornadoes.  Due here in about an hour.  I have a beautiful home but it is a manufactured home and I head for the underground when these things come around.  So, Bear, I may just see some floods...as the river is just across the road from me.  Keeping my fingers crossed (oh if I only could) that it blows over and I can get a nap in.

Jody, Mom, I am only on 5mgs right now. My doc stopped the taper from 30 four months ago because I had inflamation in my shoulder and finger but I only have a tiny bit of inflamation in my knee (from walking a mile every night after work for four days) right now none anywhere else so she probably will want me to continue the taper. I go in on the 31rst. Maybe the pred discussion will distract her from the brand name plaquenil and she will let me stay on the generic so I can continue losing weight. Methotextrate should be off the table just becasue of the lack of inflamation. One can always hope.

Boo, hope you get through the storm okay. It sounds like you are losing weight too quickly I hope you can find a way to get that stabalized. I will keep you and your situation in my prayers but I won't offer advice as only you can make those decisions.

Mom, I always have fevers with my flares lasting about three days. After going back on plaq I think I will never go off it again as the flares and just day to day pain is so much better with it. I hope you feel better soon.

Bear, I am about to start a write in pettition as I cant imagine voting for any of them.

cool  Oh sj, you sound like a momma or somethin'.  I'm ok.  Not losing fast anymore like I was.  I'm stable.  Lord knows, I needed to lose some.  I'm only 5'1".  160 lbs. is waaaay too much for my joints.  I feel good. 

Storms haven't hit here yet.  They got slower so somebody's getting a lot of rain.  Opps!  Having said that, I just heard thunder.

Hi you guys....I want your meds!!!  Both of you lose weight, and I keep finding it!!  Just not fair lol.  Seriously, sj, I am so glad that your inflammation is down, and that you're able to walk each day, that is great.  My brother has mixed-connective tissue disease, and the doc had him on that dose of pred for quite a while.  Now he just uses the plaq alone, but he has quite a bit of inflammation and pain still. His doc wants him to try mtx, too, but he dosesn't want to Don't really know what's left for him to try. As I told you before, I sure wish the plaq worked for me like it does for you.I take 200 twice a day, do they ever use higher doses than that, do you know?

Boo...hope the weather steers clear of your place, think that same line is supposed to visit us within a day or so. I'm so glad you're feeling better, and that you're posting...have missed you here!

Jody, that is the same dose of plaq I take. According to the nurses drug reference it is occassionally started at 600mg's a day (though usually for lupus) but ideally after 12 weeks you drop to 200mgs once a day. I remember the plaq working for me the first time I tried it years ago but I don't remember it working this well so I am a little leary of dropping the pred and finding out what med is doing what. I know the first time on plaq it made me so motion sick I had to quit taking it and this time that side effect went away after the first few months so apparently the same drug can have a different effecton the same person at a different time.

mom23 wow crazy about yor enbrel i hope you phoned your supplier? me i am doing ok but i can tell it is the pred keeping me in check right now not the other meds yet......
now if i just be a good little girl and take my pred?! i hate taking daily meds, it is just not in me to do that........

we still have a white landscape here but the sun was out warming today..... too much to be melted yet will take a bit. looks like we will have a dirty white easter. old snow aint pretty.........

Thanks for the input, sj. Plaq hasn't ever bothered my stomach, darn it, wish it would have, at least a tiny bit. I've hit the 6 month mark though now, and she said that at that point you've reached the max of whatever the plaq is going to do for you. So..hope she has some new ideas on Friday.

hi everybody and especially hij to raven...ya know it could considered normal to be upset with a painful disease and not have much sunshine. anyway, just hang in there raven.

bear glad you are back and hope you are doing well...sorry about the inlaws driving you nuts. don't know bear but more republican rule will surely be bad for the average person. at least mccain believes in stem cell research and will help our veterans. but i do not like him at all because he is pro-war.

boo, glad you got my joke.

jody i am very upset about the floridians losing their vote. it is not their fault but there does seem to be a way to redress the situation.

yally did ya hear the lt. gov had an affair and so did his wife and the ex jersey gov is accusing his wife of a three way affair with the chaffeur...hot stuff!

Happy Tuesday..

Well it's spring break here for myself AND the kiddo's....they are already singing the song of boredom so we are going to go roller skating and I will have the honors of watching this time around, since my knee really hurts at the moment.  However, we plan to go bowling and mini golf so hopefully I can get in on some of the fun!

Yally...that was crazy about the Enbrel and I was really starting to wonder if I was meant to take it since the week before the nurse and I had such a difficult time with it.  I didn't realize you were on the pred...it does make a world of difference thats for certain.  I hope you are feeling better until your Enbrel starts working for you.

Sj...that is all I ever had was 5mg...but I would take 3 at a time and would run out..I wish I had some right now because even with the MTX, plaq, and Enbrel, my knee and hands still hurt.

Jody..Good luck at your appointment on Friday and I have also heard that about the plaq and while it wasn't the magical pill I had hoped for without it I can't make it up my stairs, it feels like I'm walking in quicksand.  My doctor doesn't even know I'm still taking it. After I found out I could still potentially take it with the Enbrel without anything dangerous happening to me, I had to get back on it.

Boo...congrats on the weight loss that is awesome!!! There is something about RA and possibly these crazy meds that triggers weight loss since I went from 120 to 104 a couple of years ago, right around the time I developed this crazy RA.

Although one depressing thought, I have noticed that some of my fingers are starting to become crooked and bumpy sad Anyone else have this?

Momto3 I would have taken three today if I did not have this irrational voice in my head wispering about running out and having adrenal crisis... Also, I am afraid that if I don't take it exactly as prescibed my rhuemy will never prescibe it again...All of which is entirely silly since I plan on asking about going off of it in two weeks and still have more than enough left overs around. (oh well I always say that emotion doesn't respond well to logic).

there is some kind of lidocain infusion that might help me...i read about it in one of the support groups. today I took one 50 mg of lyrica at 12 noon and fell asleep at 4...it just knocks me out.

my doc was very nice and very happy that my cholesterol and sugar readings were within the normal range. actually this is the first time my cholesterol readings were ok since 2000.

i've been exercising and really trying to stay upbeat. so long for now!
