Arthritis in the neck

Hello all

I just wanted to introduce myself.

I am a 41 year old female, in the last 2 years I have had 2 children a boy of 20 months & a girl of 9 months & from my previous marriage a 19 year old girl. through my last pregnancy I had nothing but trouble, burning sensation in the neck & at the top of the back. I have had loads of test done, An Endocsope which showed esophagitis & gastrisitis which from the last endoscope I had when they gave me a 48 hour ph bravo test showed this was all heeled up. I have had gallbladder & liver checked which was normal. I have had ct scan of the lungs & heart which was normal & ecg. I also had an xray of the spine which was normal.

Last week I was so in pain with my neck & shoulders I went back to the doctor. They gave me an xray of the neck & found I had narrowing of the neck through inflammation & said I had arthritis of the neck & possible pinched nerve. Now my question is can a normal xray really detect this? My doctor is going to send me for a mri & a spine doctor. I am just really curious as I know there is no cure for arthritis was just wondering what you think should be my next procedure as I am new to this.

The inflamation can be treated and that is probably causing some of your pain. It sounds like your doctor is starting you on the right path and MRI and a specialist. If inflamation ends up being the primary problem I would want a rhuemy to consult.

Red: I have been in pain for so long I can hardly remember when it started. I've had about three MRI done the last one was done about 4 months ago when they did a bone density test and found out I had ostoperosis. The disks on my upper neck are ruptured and have degenerative arthritis along with a pinched nerve. My lower back , Knees and feet have yet another type. The RA's I've been to only work with people who have RA, and thats the one I don't have. I was sent to an Endochinologyst. Which I thought was odd but she reviewed my paper work labs etc. and sent me to the hospital to get a reclast infusion because of my bone density. I don't know if it has worked yet it will probable take a year before they do another bone density test. In the meantime I am on 1700 mg calcium and 800 miligrams of vitamin D. My last visit I was prescribed 250 mg three times a day of zinc. (I don't even know what that one if for). I think the right choice for you would be to go ahead and get the MRI they show a lot more than an x-ray. june

Just a quick question, what type of pain do you get in the neck? Mine is like a burning sensation at the top of the shoulderblades & I feel my neck is always swollen I sometimes feel I have a constant sore throat & always cough to try & clear it & obviously that is probably making it worse.The weird thing about this I only started getting the pain since my last pregnancy. I have had test galore, Gallbladder & liver, Stomach & esophagus, also been to an ENT who said my vocal cords were red, but did not see why they were red. The last test i had done was an xray of the neck which showed narrowing of the neck. the doctor said then I had arthritis of the neck & a possible pinched nerve from the inflammation. To be honest i did not think a normal xray would show up arthritis. So now she said I need to get an mri done before she will send me to a spine doc. The worse of this I never asked as many questions as I really should have cause think I was a little shocked. I know I have arthritis in the knees cause they grate like mad when going up the stairs I can actually hear them but I have not seen the doctor about this. My knees started about 8 years ago because I done exessive exercise but cant say I suffer with them that much now & again when going up the stairs. With RA how long does it take to progress?. The reason I ask this question, my mums cousin has RA & she has replacement knees elbows & has been very crippled up, she was very young in her 20's when she was diagnosed.
