My first visit to a Rheumy

I have Crohn's disease.  My doctor has told me that my cat scans show inflammation in/on my tail bone, pelvis &  joints.  He mentioned arthritis and that it goes along with Crohn's disease.  In your opinions, does this sound like arthritis?  If so, how is arthritis  treated?  Does a Rhemy give anything for the pain when I can't walk?   I appreciate your advice.

I have colitis. Pain in hips, pelvis and shoulders area could not turn over in bed and needed help getting out of bed. Went to rheumy and after many many tests was told I have Polymyalgia Rheumatica. was put on Prednisone 15 mg. which I am tapering off 1 mg. a month. Started on Plaquenil 3 months ago. It takes 3 months to feel it is helping. I am much better than when I started. Was put on Boniva infusions which I will not take again, the pain from it lasted for several weeks was terrible. Have darvecett for pain. Many have colon problems and arthritis on this panel. Inflamation showed up a lot on my tests. I think my tests and xrays have been close to $5,000. or more.

It does sound like arthritis and as you probably know chron's arthritis is pretty common among people with Chron's. My rhuemy has not given me anything specifically for pain but I have never asked when I can't walk I get prednisone and four hours later I am walking fine. There are a variety of meds that help both the chron's and the inflamitory arthritis so I don't know what your doctor will suggest but anything from mtx to the biologics like humira, enbril etc is a possiblitiy.

Hey there Bible.. welcome to the arthritis forum.. are you currently on anything for the Crohn's? does the arthritis bother you? Usually NSAIDs are prescribed for pain, but since you cannot take those, you may have to take a DMARD instead.. Are you on Remicade? Good luck to you, and please keep us posted on how you are doing..

I am currently on Entocort(dropped down to 6mg at Christmas; I was on 9) and I am on Imuran 150 mg. I take zoloft, klonazepam, and lortab for pain. I also have ambien to help with sleep. I appreciate all your help!!

Have you ever been on Remicade? Some of the members here that have Crohn's and the Crohn's related arthritis, are on Remicade, and it has helped them.. is this something that your doc has talked about?
