Hi all...

My costo has resurfaced since my diagnosis of AS 4 years ago. Although I'm taking my ibuprofen (that's what I was taking when I first had it), it's not really helping any. It stinks since it's the same side I shoot on and I have an important shoot I'm going to next weekend.

Anyone have any methods of relief I might try? I don't think it warrants a visit to the doctor - not much he can do anyway.

The only pain relief I found from costo was taking my full 150mg Diclofenac daily and 30-60mg of codeine and 1000mg paracetamol every 4-6 hours. Sometimes a heat pad or ice pack helped - best done lying down! - but they're not practical! I found this most helpful for the forst 3-4 days of the flare and then I was able to reduce the codeine to 15-30mg. Other than that, I usually just wait it out. Good luck!

I have trouble with my costochondritis too Starr. When you say you have an important "shoot" to do, do you mean you're a photographer, or are you shooting a gun! LOL.  I'm a photographer.  Finding it difficult to "shoot" my weddings and other sessions.

 

I didn't know Diclofenac came in a pill form?  I use Diclofenac cream on my back for the sacroiliitis.  Works pretty well I guess.  Didn't know about the pill. 

 

I feel the same way Starr. Not much anyone can do about it right?  Let me know if you find something that works!

Ginny, I'm a competitive Trapshooter!

I finally broke down and took a pain pill...I rarely need them but this has really been hurting. Hopefully, this will help.

Alrighty then!!  I was just a little off! LOL.

 

Do you get winded easily, or find your breathing to be more laboured when the costo is flaring?

No worries, you were close.

I don't get winded and my breathing for the most part is ok, it's when I cough or sneeze, whoa boy -- now that hurts! LoL

Actually, my low-dose pain pills seem to have helped, took the edge off anyway. I just hate taking them. My rheumy is not going to be pleased tomorrow (I already had the appointment). I'm just glad I didn't bother my regular doc with this.

I've been pretty lucky in not having major flares lately -- I sure hope this isn't the start of a humdinger.

How are you feeling today?  Is your pain worse?  I hope you're doing better today and that your rheumy was kind to you! LOL.

Actually, it is better today, thank you for asking. I did tell my rheumy and he suggested I stay the course that I'm on. Really, there's not much more a person can do! I just adore my rheumy, I'm extremely lucky to have him. He listens and talks to me --- not at me. Wonderful man. How are you doing?

What a blessing to have a rheumy like that!  I like my rheumy too. wink  I'm glad you're feeling better today! 

 

I'm doing okay.  My sacroiliitis has me all bent over. I can't straighten up today. But other than that I'm not doing too bad, LOL! Still the same old aches and pains with my joints.  I'm kind of getting used to it....... YIKES.  I don't think that's a good thing.

 

I'm just really eager to find out the results of that bone scan.  Thursday can't come soon enough.
