Broken Neck?

Have you called your doc and told him/her about this neck pain? Why would you think it's broken? Did you fall?

I know you are right. My panic disorder probably came into the situation and made
it worse. You have eased my mind so much. Do you take any Opiod medication
for your Rheumatoid Arthritis? Maybe the Methotrexate helps it? I take Methadone
for pain and Xanax for Anxiety and Depression. Thank you. THANK YOU.

Ducky, when I walked in the water there was a lot of pressure put on my spine. I
have Scoliosis so that made matters even worse.

I didn't call the doctor because he wouldn't have known what to do. I couldn't have
an MRI at 11 PM on a Thursday night. Also, I have to be careful what I report to the
doctor in the way of pain. If I'm not careful, I'll end up in the office of a Neurosurgeon.
I absolutely do not want surgery. I won't have it. Never. TY for your response.

Pamela - Codeine is an opiate, albeit one of the weaker ones and the methotrexate does help my RA. For me the MTX didn't work on it's own - it's only since putting it with Humira that things have improved. I'm glad your feeling better. I go to the pool frequently and do too much, scaring myself into thinking I'm having the worst flare ever. Sometimes we just need someone else to point these things out to us.

Swimming is one of the better exercises for anyone with joint problems because you don't put any stress on the joints. I try to go frequently to improve my fitness and muscle strength. My muscles are really really weak due to my disease being uncontrolled for a long time, and we just won't talk about my fitness! One thing that I find helps is going to the sauna straight after being in the pool. The heat helps prevent my muscles and joints from seizing up after a swim. I can sympathise with how hard it is though, especially when things are bad. The pool I use at uni is at the bottom of a very steep hill and I live at the top. I have to walk and if I swim on bad day then making back to my flat is nearly impossible.

The key is to do short, gentle sessions. When i was younger I swam competatively and I stupidly tried to do the same amount I used to do in the pool and nearly broke myself. It was a harsh lesson in pacing! Now I know that it is ok if I can only do 8 lengths in half an hour.
