MTX and low hemoglobin

hi everyone just a quick post to see if anyone has any knowledge on this one?

my hemoglobin has been hovering around 8 and 9 low enough i guess to have a transfussion which i not yet have had....

i forgot to ask all my docs if i should hold the mtx with the level being so low or if it doesnt matter?

frankly i have been holding it for so many weeks and last week finally took humira again so i dont know if i should get on the mtx wagon or stay off?

I think you need to ask your doc. Mine did not get that low but when I became very anemic my doc stopped my NSAIDS but had me stay on mtx.

Hi Yally-
Just wanted to mention that a reaction of mtx is severe aneimia. They generally dont infuse until you are below 8. If this is a chronic thing they should be looking at why, and trying to treat that. I dont know your history but some autoimmune diseases cause anemia (I dont think usually that low) but holding off on you mtx may make it worse. Do you have kidney disease or something that is causing the anemia? They should be giving you something to elevate you HgB. Im sure you feel like crap with it being so low. I would say if he didnt tell you to stop it when he told you your hgb was low then start taking it, unless there was a reason you stopped.
