I find that the colder the weather the more pain i have from my arthritis's . I have to keep my home really warm so the pain is not to bad. Atleast my Crohn's is in remission. It sometimes hard dealing with the RA. I have been on remicade for 5 years it has helped my crohn's buy not really helped my RA or OA.

I hear ya! I absolutely HATE the cold. Not only because it affects all my joints but my Raynauds as well. Second to the cold is rainy weather. I just HURT from head to toe when it's rainy out.

I also hate the cold and it has been as cold as 17 below zero here this week.  My hips tend to be very painful and tender when it is this cold.

I am on the fence with this weather! I love the snow. I live in the Chicago area so it is always either humid, rainy, or cold here. There are only a few days a year when the weather doesn't affect my pain level! I actually had my rhemie tell me last year that the weather doesn't affect your joints!! He said it is because we are less active in the winter! I should have asked him about the patients in nursing homes that don't even know what day it is but they know it is raining outside because thier knees and hands hurt! I think he needs a little more experience...... I hope you find some relief everything this season.

It's funny thinking of you all in winter while I'm suffering in the heat. Guess what arthritis flares in heat too!!! We can't win, extremes of weather set it off and once it's hot I start to swell and stiffen...

Snickers..that is really strange that a rheumy told you that.  Last New Years Eve, my husband and I went to see Christmas displays at a zoo, and within 20 minutes of walking outdoors in temps at 30 degrees, my hips felt painful and frozen literally! I had to be carried to the car, and my rheumy said he hears stories like that often.

Mom- I know its wierd. He also says that we should all be able to take our medications and feel better. As though there are magic pills that make us feel 100% better. My sed rate is still at 30 and he says its normal. Well I am 26- it should be zero! I am undecided about him. I have been seeing him for almost 2 years and sometimes he is great and other times he is not. I do not know if it is because he is a fairly new rhemy and still does general medicine practice or what. I mean he did his internship and is a member of the american rhematology board but I dont know if it is just because he has less experience than other MDs? There is only one other group of rhemies by us. I saw the other one for 1 year and she refferred me to 10 other doctors and finally told me to go to Loyola or Northwestern because she didnt know what was wrong but that I definately have some sort of inflammatory process. To be honest I dont care what it is as long as she would have treated me. So I dont know. Sorry to rant on that one!!
I am tempted to bring him in studies about barometric pressure and increasing winter joint pain!

I cringe every time I hear someone say that the weather doesn't affect the joints.   I even read an article a few years back in the Arthritis Today magazine that said that!   Whoever says that surely can't have arthritis.   I have been doing really well on the Humira, but still can predict a storm two days out.  You'd think these people would listen to us, I think we outnumber them.

Anyway - hope you all have a wonderful holiday and let's all hope and pray for a good New Year.

I am shocked that a rheumy Dr would even suggest that the weather does not affect your joints. I can tell you the day before it rains or snows.. I mean I can not even get out of bed because I am so stiff and sore from the changing weather. Like Alicat says....they can not possibly suffer from Arthritis.

Yes weather does affect our arthritis,s Anybody who says weather does not affect the arthritis is totally wrong it does affect mine.

Snickers...A good rheumy is hard to find!  Mine is okay, and has done all he can as far as meds, but there are days when I take a pain pill because I hurt so much.  However, he has only prescribed prednisone once to me, and it seems no matter how much of a flare I'm in, he will not give it to me.  It takes a lot to get a Medrol dose pack out of him rolleyes There are other rheumy's in my area, but as long as this one is willing to treat my symptoms since I'm sero-negative I will stick it out.  I'm afraid of switching because a new doctor may not be willing to do that.

It's okay to rant about our rheumy's and I do wonder if any of them have arthritis? Probably not!
