Good luck. I'm so glad to hear you like your rhuemy...I miss mine...I'm seeing a different interim one next week. <sigh> I've had enough of this, I need to look in to another medical group or something.

It'll be 1 year next week since I fell so badly and hurt my knee...I've never had it followed up on (so many other things to discuss at appt, I forget - my bad!), it's still got a big bulge on it and swells during flares....Not good.

Yeah, the flexibility isn't going to last long, I'm sure. Very sad....but I've been sick and took advanatage of the opportunity to not miss work by working from home. I have a pretty bad respiatory thing and don't want it to turn in to pneumonia or bronchitis like they so often do for me. And I'm going to make use of the time I have with it to the best of my abilities. It's been hard because everyone has been passing virus's back and forth for the last 3 weeks and the kids have missed a ton of school! Soon as they are better from one bug, they come down with another! This weekend we're going to focus on making sure we find every little thing in the house that has been touched or near someone in the last month and disinfect it! LOL.

However, take it easy - you sound so overloaded! If the meds are not helping, what about switching to Enbrel or something else to try? I'm so past working like that for any length of time (at least at this point still).....I can't do it....I've lost too many jobs trying because I land in the hospital from my body shutting down. The indusustry down here is so small, you can't go to a new company w/o knowing someone or working with someone who knows a previous co-worker. I can only suddenly leave so many jobs due to illness before I get blackballed - so to speak!

I thought I was going to loose my job the other day....I was told they are overbudget with their temps (which I am). Yikes. But, for the moment, I am safe. Yeah!

Raven, from someone who has dealt w/non-stop infections from other medicines, I can tell you that with being on Plaquenil for the last few years, my infection rate has been next to nil by comparison. I was on Arava for about 15 months and had other issues with it, but not infections.

Everyone is always welcome to the moanin' thread! The doctors all shunned the idea that my high blood pressure was the result of the Arava...the fact is with all my other ailments over the years, my BP never faltered and suddenly I was in the ER due to high BP. Once I stopped taking the arava, my BP was back to normal in less than a month.

Methotrexate wiped my WBC count completely out, I was shocked when Arava did not do it as well.

Basically - you just never know with medications! Trust your gut when something isn't right.

All the deadly nightshade veges are no good for arthritis. Thats all the tasty ones, potato, tomato, egg plant...plus acidic foods we should try and cut down as they cause inflammation. But pineapple is a natural anti inflammatory as well as berries. Blue berries are particularly good. Stear clear of white wines, reds are ok. Hows that for a brief consult, I'm trying anything to help at the moment. Goodluck with it all.

 I think humira is suppose to be the less allergic of the two you mentioned as its human based chemistry as opposed to artificial chemicals but I am not a doctor nor a naturopath and at this stage of your disease I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new. Interested to hear you're also prone to bronchitis and pneumonia, they're my two weak points as well. Got a cold at the moment and can just feel the beginnings of a cough coming on!!!

I can sympathise Ducky, I work part time with 3 kids who are sporting fanatics. This is my busy term with soccer, cross country running and athletics all over the state. I am a typical taxi mum!

Ah well I am glad that some info was new. I employ a child minder to run kids to the weekly training sessions and use car pooling for soccer, so its just weekends I am on the go mainly. Child minder is new for me too and she has been wonderful. I only work part time so run kids to events when possible on my days off. I am mad, natural high energy, homework slots in when I get home from work or straight after dinner. But my older child, 15, only uses me for editing or occassional help now. Youngest doesn't get much, so only my middle child I mainly concentrate on. We did drop swimming though this year!

I hear the traditional public schools around here dole out the homework as well in the elementary schools and I'm not sure why.  When we moved to Colorado we were lucky to find non-tradional experiental learning where it is hands on and child centered learning.  I'm surprised you don't have these out in California, Camama? We didn't in Kansas but it is very conservative in those parts.  My two boys actually went to a Catholic school and it was so bad that one little girl had a box by her desk to collect the work that was incomplete since she just couldn't keep up with the constant paper shuffle, and she was in first grade.

My daughter is in 6th grade and does bring home math homework on Tuedays, and my son who is in highschool, has 4 80 minute classes, may bring homework home every now and then but not very often.  However, my oldest son that goes to a traditional highschool in Kansas has 7 classes and he is buried in homwork and really struggling.

Camama....vent away, it's your right as a parent!! I agree kids are over scheduled and it does get ridiculous! My daughter is in cheer, and we had pictures a few weeks ago, and I over heard a parent tell a child, hurry up we have to get to soccer You have got to be kidding me? On the same night? Nuts! We do cheer and thats it.  I have wondered a few times that my 12 year old daughter will not be well rounded with only doing cheerleading, and not knowing how to play any other sports etc, but I just can't see running to something every other night, not too mention the weekends...when the competitive season for cheer begins, we have a comepition sometimes twice a month and they are not local, and we have to pay to get in, at 15 to 20 bucks each time.  That is more than a movie for my husband and myself sometimes we ask ourselves if we have lost our minds..But then my daughter cheers and tumbles in our living room all of the time, she lives cheer so I know it is worth it.  I think it's great that your kiddos want to spend time with you and your husband! Please enjoy it before everything becomes stupid and boring at age 15 (I have a 15 year old sigh!) They will never be this age again, and when they are grown they won't remember all of the activities, they will remember times at home with you, playing games, playing in the yard etc.

As far as the schools are concerned we have some doozies  here as well! We have many schools with teachers who do not care, and also with a great deal of bullying that goes on...The town that we live in, the schools are a nightmare, with wannabe gangs, and lots of fighting, and racism.  We drive 45 minutes to get to the kids' school because its an ELOB (expeditionary learning outward bound) and we used to be a charter but due to finances we lost our charter and were picked up by the school district.  Kids come to our school for the safety and tolerance that we offer, because we don't have the bullying, and we are one of the safest in the district.  We are a bit off the beaten path, and you see some strangely dressed kids, but it is pretty much the only school where kids can express themselves without ridicule.  The only downfall is that we don't have the resources for the electives that other schools have and we don't support a sports program, however, we do offer a travel program to places such as Moab Utah, Arizona, Mexico etc and we emphasize community service as part of our learning.  That and we have teachers that are with the kids because they want to be and they embrace the EL philosophy, they are truly priceless.  My daughter will be in 7th grade next year and it is such a relief knowing that she will be in good hands with teachers that I trust.  She has been at the same school since kindergarten at a school that has basically the same philosophy so she will transition in with no issues. Her dad calls it the hippy school and thats fine because she has learned so much more than she would have at a traditional school here.

Just keep doing what you are doing, and I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but here we have what is called "school of choice" which means we can go to any school that is out of district, you may want to check into this, and see if you have any room to move about and find a school that suits your needs better.  I'm sorry your little guy is struggling Bless his heart and piling on more work obviously isn't helping That is the problem with better school districts, higher achievment=higher test scores=more funding, it isn't fair to the kids. Here we have the CSAP's, and to be honest it is one day, a snapshot of a students achievement, yet so much depends on the scores...it gets a lot of us riled up!

Yally girl, it is good to hear from you! I would ask the silly question of how do you keep going, but of course I already know the answer, like the rest of us, you just do! It is scary with this swine flu and you are in New York right???? wear the mask!!!!! We now have two confirmed cases here in Colorado and I worry about being in close proximity to all of these kiddos on campus, so I'm constantly washing my hands.  I'm so thankful that I'm  not on the Enbrel anymore just the MTX but still I worry

That is wonderful news about your daughter driving but yes where does  the time go?  My son will  start drivers ed this summer and well its all down hill after that you know! My youngest is 12 and will be starting 7th grade in the fall and I'm just not ready *sigh*, but they have to grow up right?

I'm sorry you are in so much pain, what are you taking and when was the last time you were at the rheumy?? sounds like a visit is in order, and time to take a peak at those hips. 

Have you heard from Jody? I have a feeling that something isn't right.
