mistake made when self injecting humira

Have been reading others posts about their experiences with humira and i have to admit I am impressed with the medication and have been injecting myself in the belly with no dramas for the past year and a half. (except do notice the belly fat which is new for me) BUT this evening I screwed up and lost some of the medication when the needle came out too soon. Has anyone else done this? not sure what to do next. I know I don't re-inject but do I go another two weeks not knowing how much of the medication I have received? Am wondering how quickly there will be a reaction to this I have RA ::

I'd ring your rheumy. Or your local doctor, if there is still some humira left in the needle they may be able to save it. Otherwise I don't know, my rheumy explained about the half life and the lenghth of time it takes to leave your body, she said some people can miss a dose without ill affect...I'm not one of them! But I'd talk to an expert, you don't want to push yourself into a flare unnecessarily. Goodluck, let us know how you go, golitho.

thanks golitho am off to see a doc today to get some blood tests and see what is happening I guess one only does that sort of stuff up once .. moral of the story dont inject when you are feeling tired and un-concentrated the healing well forum and others have been quite instructive on ways to minimise pain when injecting so will try some of those tips when back on the Humira in a couple of weeks

I haven't messed it up yet, but I certainly know the anxiety of handling a $750 syringe. I'm curious whether you use the pen or syringe, because another poster recently had a pen mishap. I've been using the syringe myself, but I'm curious about trying the pen. If mishaps are more common with the pen, however, I'll just stick with the old reliable.

hi,

I use enbrel pens and had one that refused to fire. the makers of enbrel were very good about sending me a replacement with in days at no charge or fuss. i'm glad that i had an extra pen around to take the meds on schedule though. i feel a little nervous with this med too. I've been told the enbrel pen is $1000 a dose/ week. it's good to know the makers are good about helping with failures.

Hmm well, I am into day 4 on a half dose of Humira (my mistake with the pen) and am feeling fine so fa. I think maybe week two will be the test for it all and it may be a bit of extra inflammation. Re: the injecting.. I use a pen as I have always been needle phobic but to be honest (and bit brave here) I haven't had too much trouble with it . Only one incident of localised irritation around the inject site that lasted for a week and was itchy but apart from that its been okay. The mishap last week was because I was ired and feeling a bit impatient it was at the end of the day and I usually inject in the mornin when I am rested and my head is clear. I think letting the Humira get to room temp and chilling the injection site (on the belly always for me) are both wise things to do and make sure you are relaxed.
