Anyone using Imuran for RA?

Hello,  I am wondering if anyone uses Imuran for RA.  My daughter takes it for Crohns and is thrilled.  It has helped her so much.  She became allergic to Remicade after 18 months and an increase in dosage.  She reports no side effects w/Imuran.  I know they use the same drugs for both Crohns & RA.  Please let me know as I see my Rheumy today.....should not have waited until last minute.  Thank you....have a great day.

I don't take it, but it's been mentioned as a possibility for me to take. I'd like to hear more. I also had a reaction to Remicade after about 18-20 months. How long has she been on Imuran. Are you going to start it?

I take Imuran for RA. I take it with Humira, Plaquenil and pred. For me, it's been wonderful! No side-effects, gets me over the 4 days when my Humira would wear off.

Hi CaMamma...I started immuran about 12 day ago. I have had some stomach upset but it is subsiding. It does take several weeks to see any improvement according to my doc. I am opitmistic! I also take Nurotin (probably mispelled), and Xanax for sleep. I will take a pill over an injection or infusion anytime : ).

Started taking imuran about 2 months ago for RA after bad side effects w/ arava. It hasn't worked & now have an increased dose. Also on prednisone, enbrel, and sulfazine. I'm heartened to hear it has helped some others & hope I'll start getting some positive results soon.

Hi Indea, out of curiosity, what were your bad side effects with Arava? I ask because I had severe issues and before I confirmed it WAS the Arava, every single doctor I questioned about it said, 'oh no...it's very unlikely the Arava is causing any of this."

I hope you start getting relief soon with what you are taking.

I hope you don't mind if I add to the curiousity pot? At what mgs does Imuran have to be in order for it to be effective for RA?

I have taken Imuran from mid-2006 until earlier this year when I weaned off it in order to become pregnant. I found that it was very effective in controlling my RA and lupus symptoms. However, when I first began taking it, I had horrible stomach cramps (very painful and lasting several hours), until I read someone's suggestion to take it with food. Doing so took care of the cramps and I've been quite happy with it since then.
