Anyone get sores in the nose?

I have had the same issues with nose pimples/infections, and I have not been on Prednisone or Enbrel for quite some time.
I mentioned it to my GP and he suggest Hibiclens. I use it about twice a week and have not had the issues since. As a bike rider who spends a lot of time in the saddle, I've found other uses for Hibiclens as well

I have lupus and a TON of "skin problems related to it," is what my doctors keep saying. I think that means they don't really know. Just stopped taking Methotrexate a month ago because my rheumy didn't think it was helping my skin enough.

Now I have painful sores/scabs in my nostrils (both sides) and on the insides of my ears (both sides). I haven't had any sores in the mouth yet, though. Two of my doctors have looked in my ears and nose but both seemed more concerned with other things so I let it go too. Now they really hurt, are crusty and my nose bleeds every day. My rheumy gave me a strong steroid cream (Halog) to put in my ears and other rashes... should I put that in my nose?

I get sores in my nose from time to time and was told that it was from the methotrexate I take. My dr. said that mouth sores were more common from the MTX, but of course I would get them in my nose, usually when I have a cold or when the air is really dry. I use a saline spray to keep my nose moist because they hurt so much worse when they get dry and scab, and a smear of Neosporin, which seems to help it heal faster.

I too have a tiny sore spot inside the tip of my nose. Sometimes a tiny red crack appears at the very inside tip of my nostril and other times the sore spot moves to the tip of the other nostril. These sore spots are not pimples and nothing I've used so far has eliminated the problem. I've had this sore spot (always in the same location) for well over a year and I am 68 years old. Lately, the tissue in the bulbous part of my nose seems to get swollen, a bit red and infected.

Things I've tried that do nothing at all to alleviate the problem:

Alcohol
Antibiotic salve
Cortizone Cream

I can't figure out how such a little sore spot can be so painful, last for so long, and be nonresponsive to antibiotic applications.

I do not have RA or any other significant health problems.

Please respond if anyone has a clue as to what causes this uncomfortable problem.

SORES INSIDE MY NOSE along with a Complicated Medical History.

 

This thread started years ago but it's exactly what I was looking for when I googled sores in my nose.  Here's my 2 cents....

 

I have been getting multiple sores in my nostrial for several years. Usually one side or the other, but a few times I;ve had them in both nostrils at the ssame time. When I get them on one side, and the eventually heal up (typically 1 1/2 wks), I end up with them on the other side. An episode starts with one open sore, then usually the next day I have 2 or 3 more in the same nostril. They are very painful and bleed. I try not to blow my nose especially when scabs form on the sores. These episodes seem to come in cycles for multiple outbreaks. Then the cycle seems to end for several months....until the next one. I have no idea what the rhyme or reason is, but I am frustrated with these episodes and looking for answers. Your comments are welcomed.

 

*Many of you have linked your nose sores to diseases and/or treatments for diseases. I am not taking nor have I ever taken oral steroid medications.

 

I have a long complicated Medical History: Hopefully you have time to read it. Your comments are welcome. I have had multiple health issues over time begining with Fallopian Tube Contortion as a baby and corrected by surgery. I've had weak ankles as a child that used to give out when I ran. Scoliosis. Diagnosis of Raynaud's. I've had terrible Psoarisis placques for several years which is in remission after ultaviolet light treatments . Unusual diagnosis at age 19 of osteoporosis/osteopenia...monitored by annual DEXA scans for years.  Multiple broken wrists and arms from falling during play. Bad back, hip pain most of my adult life...now neck and shoulder pain. Bunions with multiple associated surgeries. Osteoarthritis verified multiple times over the years by x-ray and CT. I was hospitalized with mononucleosis at age 21. Suffered with a hypothyroid in my 30's for about 10 years before I was finally diagnosed. At age 52 all hell broke loose and I became very ill needing to  leave my full-time job.  I was diagnosed with EBV- Epstein-Barr Virus (mono), adrenal fatigue, cryptic tonsils, Hashimoto's Disease. I had extreme fatigue, muscle pain, extreme muscle fatigue, sleep disturbance, chronic headaches all which which continue. I've been worked up by neurologists. Other than a muscle biopsy which showed Type II muscle fiber atrophy...no diagnosis to identify a muscle disease. CK and ANA have been normal when tested.

 

Multiple Gastrointestinal issues over the years constipation, stomach ulcers, gallbladder removal, GERD relieved by hiatal hernia repair (Nissan Fundoplication sx), paraesophageal hernia repair (Nissan again). Chronic diarrhea post cholysesectomy now being treated with cholystyramine. Recently diagnosed with esophageal motility disorder caused by low pressures, Dysphagia and esophageal spasms. Lost 31 pounds in 7 months. Currently suffering with feeling of being full after small amounts of liquids or food, bloating, stomach/abdomen pain and severe distension and pressure, flatulance, chronic burping whcih soes not relieve distentsion and pressure. 

 

I've have double vision (since 9 yo) corrected with prisim in glasses, Corneal Disease: EBMD- Epithilial Basement Membrane Dystrophy, TSPK- Thygeson's Superficial Punctate Keratitis, and ptosis (droopy eyelids), blurry vision and photosensitivity diagnosed in my 50's.

 

Over the past 6 years or so my billirubin and billi total have been elevated. Six months ago my liver enzymes were elevated, kept going up, and now coming back down. Ultrasound and CT were normal. No hepatitis. *My mother and cousin died of a rare cancer...Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct), so I was alarmed when my liver studies were persistantly elevated.

 

WOW...is that enough? I'm sure I'm forgetting something! ; )

I am so glad I found this page. I have been getting these sores/pimples for a while now. I thought it was related to the fact that my cat paws my face. Soon after this would occur I would get one and they are really painful. Today I got one in my left nostril and my cat has not pawed my face. I will have to talk to my doctor. I have type 2 and maybe that is causing more physical problems.

BleedingRose, I am glad you brought this thread back up to the top. I get sores in my nose too, but not very often. They are very painful. I put a little neosporin on a q-tip and swab the area several times a day until the sore is gone. I think it helps. I also get painful areas in my nose that I do not think are sores. When that happens I put chapstick on the q-tip and swab the area.

I also get painful hard lumps in my tongue that come in go, and white painful sores where my tonsils used to be. On several occasions I have had tongue pain and went to look and found something that looks like a blood blister.

My body is having a great time driving me crazy!

I just looked up cryptic tonsils and esophageal motility disorder. I don't think I have cryptic tonsils. They were removed when I was 5, but the sores are where the right tonsil would be. I have been told there is still tonsil tissue there by some doctors. Most do not see the sores with a quick look in my mouth. I have to point them out.

I wondered about the esophageal motility. I have been hoarse for over a year. My larynx looks normal, but is swollen. I am on proton inhibitors twice a day and nothing has changed.

I read through your OP again and sadly you are in much worse shape than me. I am about ready to give up and just feel bad without running around to all sorts of doctors who all give different opinion.

I woke up this morning feeling really bad. I noticed I have a sore just outside my left nostril. I have had them tested before thinking they might be herpes, but they are not herpes, and nothing at all showed up in the labs.

I think my body has been turning on itself since I was a kid. It gets old and today is going to be a do nothing sort of day. Hopefully I will have the energy to wash last nights dinner dishes before tonights dinner.

I have a few chores to do and then I really need to let my dogs out to run, although I really do not feel much like doing anything. I will look in the GERD forum when I come back in in a couple of hours.

I decided to try an ENT closer to me and that was yet another wasted doctors visit. We have elevated the head of our bed and that has helped. I have only had one serious reflux since then. One where you cannot breathe and you are terrified you have swallowed you own vomit.

When I lay quietly at night I can hear a wheeze only when I breathe out.

Oh and . . . I did not wash last nights dishes. They can wait until tomorrow.

A rheumy can help you with medication for the sores. It's very common to develop sores due to an autoimmune disease.
