Hi Spicey,
Curcumin comes from the tumeric. I forgot to mention the guy claimed to be in remission, and he says his wife is a perinatologist with a PhD in pharmacology. If folks will take the time to read his posts I'm sure it will be found VERY impressive, just gloss over the stuff that you may not understand. I realise it could be a farce but I am a reasonably intelligent very skeptical fellow and I'm gonna try it. The only reason I take supplements is so my little darlin will cut me some slack. I've read posts on this site that it has helped people quite a bit and this guy has it down to a science. There is another guy on the forum that says he is in remission also, he has medical background as an RN, Med Tech and Pathology Assistant . Do ya'll know what pred, mtx and remicade actually target? I just started looking for a reasonable affordable source for curcumin, it may not be affordable for some folks. I'm at around $50.00 a month so far but have to read reviews B4 I buy any. I'll say no more and get off the soapbox.Here is a snip I copied and pasted;
Prednisone and Remicade (infliximab) inhibit TNF-alpha proliferation. Methotrexate, a cancer drug, inhibits NF-kB. Although by no means the only protein involved in immune response, TNF-alpha is a significant component of immune system responses, and this is the reason Prednisone has usually been the first line of defense in sarcoidosis. The thinking in using these drugs for sarc, is that by inhibiting these proteins (and thus, calming the overactive immune response), the inflammation cycle will slow down or stop, thus preventing unnecessary cell death in healthy tissue. This may not fix the underlying problem (which is the pathogenesis of the granulomas themselves), but does help stop many of the symptoms (pain, fatigue, organ damage, etc) and in some cases, causes remission. However, all of these pharmaceuticals are crude, unsubtle weapons - they are sledgehammers to the immune system, which is why the side effects can be so severe, and the dosing so variant between patients.To give you an example of how powerful it is, Prednisone, this same drug given to sarc patients, is also used as an immunosuppressor for organ transplant patients, so their body doesn't reject the new tissue.
