Do your hands hurt when you use them?

Wrists hurt when you try to carry something like a few books or grocery bag?

Do your feet and ankles hurt when you walk?

My doctor wanted to know if I have pain at rest. he says RA pain is felt at rest- osteo is with use.

i think he's off his rocker.

I told him even at my very worst in a pain cycle I would try to stay very still. The more still I could be the less pain I had.

i'd like to meet your Doc   All i can think is Maby he ment Osteo Wouldn't hurt at rest compared to RA which Darm well Hurts All the time, and yes more so if you try to use them, they'll ach laying in bed or if i pick up a cup,just its a more instant pain when using them. Honestly if you took to heart all that the Doctors & Rhumy's say you'd go Batty

crazy Dr. that is all I can say. Mine hurt at rest, at use, when i sleep. I have way more hours of the day hurting than not hurting. I can't pick up something without my hands "seizing" up on my so i drop things. My knees hurt when i bend them, or lay very still. I have OA and RA along with FM but i can usually tell which is hurting from what. Maybe you need a second opinion? I think i would just for peace of mind. Good Luck, Heather

There is something about Rheumys and their lack of understanding. We have the same problem here in the state of FL. Where I am, we have only one rheumy in the area. Thank God he is great thus far. In other parts of the town, they have a few, but from what I have heard they are not sympathetic and very understanding. I personally changed Rheumy's because he was not listening to me and did not really want to hear me complain. My understanding is if you are not in a wheelchair and have something like Chronic MS or Lupus or Parkinson's disease everything else to them is minor and not of high importance. This is not fair because a patient is a patient and regardless for what they are being treated for, if they have complaints and are in pain, they should be heard. Too bad some of the experiences we have had w/ Rheumys their not as understanding as they should be. Hopefully they will get better in time. I know that a lot of the Rheumy do not like to bother w/ FM patients. They think it is all in our head and sometimes even PCP think it is all in our heads too. When I mention it to my PCP, he ignores me but I am okay w/ that because I have my Rheumy, who is handling this. When are physicians going to finally understand and research more FM instead of assuming we are all nuts. We can't be all nuts, when we have so many people w/ this dreadful autoimmune disease. Sorry had to vent. Keep us posted when you get a new rheumy and best of luck to you.

I so agree with you. I think they like the discovery part but then lose interest. I know, even though I like the one I have now, that when he thought it was just FM he didn't pay much attention. Then when the blood test came back, and bone scans it lit a fire with him...sad really. We shouldn't have to be the worse of the worse to get adequate treatment. Heather

iv'e been asked the very same Question, and they do mean yes RA will hurt All time if you are using or if resting where as OA aparently is only when in use.

I'm not in a flare. When I'm in a flare my joints hurt regardless. When I am controlled they hurt intermittedly and especially when I use them for everyday tasks.

I don't believe I have OA. I am and have always been of healthy weight and have never had a job that causes repetive motions. I am young- 50.

If this isn't RA pain maybe I have something like Lyme?

I understand about the gell phenomonom. Once I get home from work and sit down it takes all I can to get up out of the chair after sitting for an hour. I hobble around until it loosens up again.
