higher dose of mtx to get off mobic

Hello,

I am going to start taking a higher dose of methotrexate with the goal of taking less Mobic or going off of it altogether. I have reactive arthritis. The doctor has proclaimed the swelling to be completely under control, according to the blood work and my absence of symptoms during my visit.

Anyway, does that work? Will the MTX let me get off Mobic? I have tried to drop the Mobic but then I end up in a lot of pain, limping around etc. She is concerned because I am being treated for hypertension yet have been on Mobic for a couple of years now.

So far, I have had no bad reactions to the mobic and the mtx. I'm allergic to some of the other drugs.

the issue with Mobic is that I have high blood pressure (though my numbers are good while I take Norvasc), and can be linked to increased risk of heart problems. Very bad history in my family of the deadly heart problems at a young age.

I know some people think MTX is an awful thing but so far it has been fine with me. Really, i do wonder if the two drugs together could end up being bad for my stomach. No problems so far.

my pain levels have gone way down. The Mobic is really for my plantar fasciitis which is somehow tied to this arthritis. It's very stubborn. It's hard to walk right if that bugger gets inflamed. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I've been taking longer walks, so of course my stupid foot is complaining. I'm not going to try giving up my Mobic til I've been on this higher MTX dose for a few weeks (20 mg per week)
