comforting moments from way back then.....

 

  I can remember after we got washed up and dressed for bed we would all gather around and watch Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Starsky and Hutch, Barretta and Gunsmoke. (the later three being dads favorites)

We would get a cup of ice cream too.

If there was nothing on (and in those days that was often) we would play games. We were all quite competative and card games were our favorite. We still play canasta and poker often with our extended families. (ps - there were 5 of us kids so game nights were very loud and very fun.)

I do miss things from when i was a kid. I watched tv with my parents, we sat outside during the summer while we bbq fish etc., played yatzee together late at night etc.

I miss not having technology occupying our days. Between computers, phones, my kindle games and cable tv, I am doing stuff 24/7. Sure, i started doing stuff on them to keep me from concentrating on my pain, but now it is as if i have to play the games, watch latest tv shows since there are a million now etc.

There is just no relaxing and having fun with the family. Just wish I realized this earlier as my kid just turned 18.

hee hee go- that's funny! I had a friend who said she used to hide behind the chair when watching I Love Lucy doing crazy things and would call out to Lucy watch out! Here comes Ricky!

I remember long, hot, carefree summer days when I had not a worry in the world. In the morning me & my best friend would play every board game we had. Things like Mystery Date, Life, Careers, Monopoly (I hated Monopoly). Her house would smell of bacon and eggs that her mom cooked her father every day before he went to work. While we played we were in front of the tv watching things like Candid Camera. Then we'd go to the playground. The rec dept. had camp counselors there and we would do arts & crafts among other things. Sometimes they had field trips. After the playground we went back to her house for lunch and her big sister would have ridden her bike up to the corner store to get tastycakes or popsicles in flavors such as root beer, vanilla, blue raspberry for dessert. Those were the days you could eat dessert twice a day and never gain an ounce...After lunch we went to another friends' house to swim in her pool. A bunch of us would be there and we would play Marco Polo or we would have one person get on a raft and they would be pulled around while other kids pretended to be different animals and we called it Jungle Cruise like from Disneyland. Those were the days kids actually had imagination! After that the big can of Charles Chips would come out and we would devour them. Don't know how her parents afforded having all us kids there every day! Then we went home and watched afternoon soaps and The Dating Game. I'd go home for dinner and then back out for group games of Tag, Hide & Seek, Duck Duck Goose etc. until the street lights came on and then we had to go inside. Sometimes we would have sleep overs and that meant you had jiffy pop with lots of butter and got to stay up late and watch Love American Style.
