Sulfasalazine headache permanent or temporary?

I just started taking Sulfasalazine a couple of weeks ago, and am curious if the terrible headaches will go away in time? Seems to help somewhat with the discomfort of RA, but I am not certain the headaches are worth it. I also take Methotrexate, Prednisone, Plaquenil and Humira. I am fairly new to all these medications, so maybe it is a combination of all them?

They are increasing my dose slowly as well. The first day I took it (only 500mg) I had the worst headache ever. I guess the goal is over 3000mg/day. I don't know if I will make that dose. It makes me nauseated as well. I got the enteric coated one. Just curious if I should try to ride this out or quit now. I am taking Tylenol like mad.

I was on sulfasalazine for the first couple years I was diagnosed (3000mg as well). I too had headaches but they slowly went away. I also had muscle weakness as a side affect but I could live with it. I was pain free for a couple years on it and went into a remission for a year with no meds. I flared back up eventually and it stopped working over time after that.

I meant to add also that I had really really bad headaches as a result of plequinil. I was on it after the sulfa stopped working but could not continue on it due to the side effects.

I hope it works well for you, I used ibuprofren as well at that time and it helped alot with the headaches in the beginning. -Don
