I'm having problems with my eyes.  Any correlation with RA anyone knows of?

I have eye problems but I have been told it is my medicine...Plaquenil.

Plaquenil is a medication that you have to get your eyes checked at least once a year, sometimes more. Also, I have had Iritis in my left eye. Which is inflamation of the eye, that was caused by, and is apparently happens often to patients of RA....
Be sure to get any eye problems checked out immediately because I was told by an eye specialist if I had not gotten my iritis checked out and treated as fast as I did it could have made me blind in that eye....

OMG!  Thank you so much for the update on RA and eyes!  I am new to this!!  I was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago!

Always make sure to get your eyes checked out good, pictures of your corneas and such, right now I'm being effected by possibly a rare form of an autoimmune that causes macular degeneration...So please take this as a warning and get your eyes checked as soon as possible! Believe me you do not want macular degeneration, only good thing is it was caught early by the computer pictures...But it has not been easy!
FYI- I'm not even in my 50's yet, so nothing age related about this for me......

I am going for baseline eye pictures next month because of new issues. Last week I started with a shadow and ended up with an emergency appointment. 39 years old and I have a cataract,lol. What is up with that? Its very small and I will go back in 3 months to be reassesed.

Moral of the story, dont mess with your eyes. Get some baselines and get anything unusual checked out!

just had an appt 2 days ago and he found "dots" on the membranes of both eyes... have another appt in 6 months .... been on plaquenil for 25 years. this is the first sketchy news and i feel a bit nervous

I too am on plaquenil and I have my eyes checked thoroughly every year without fail. However I have been aggravated with my eyes being blurry lately. Is that a side effect maybe? I just had my eyes checked about 3 months ago and all was fine... no changes.

You may have cataracts developing from long term steriod use.

I've got cataracts in the beginning stage, things look blurry, but I still pass the eye test.

During a flare of RA I had severe conjunctivitis. Apparently this is a common effect of the disease.
