I had to get an pneumonia shot last year, my doctor told me to get one, since i had pneumonia. Does anyone know how ofter you have to get one? I was also wondering about the flu shot should i get one? I never have gotten the flu shot..but just was wondering if i should? Thanks!

I'm not sure about the pneumonia shot; I've never had it (or pneumonia). My rheumatologist had me get a flu shot. Since I'm on methotrexate, she said not to take the oral (mist) vaccine as it is a live vaccine.

Can you call your doctor's office and ask one of the nurses/assistants about the shots?

Yeah, i could call and ask. So the flu shot..i should get the actual shot then? not either of the mist then? I haven't talked to my rheumy or seen him yet. not till the end of this month. But maybe i'll call and ask. Thanks!

I think calling the office and asking best. I'm an engineer, not a doctor. smilewinkgrin

My experience is that my rheumy doesn't want me to have any live vaccines. My typhoid vaccine expired recently and I had to make special arrangements to get a shot rather than taking the oral (live) vaccine. (I travel a lot for work, so they keep us up-to-date on a lot of odd vaccines.)

Hi I get Flu shot EVERY Year I Won't Miss it as I Got So Sick with Flu
as For the Pneumonia Shot I got that a few years ago and the Doctor said you get it every 5 years But I changed Doctors a while ago and knew it was coming up to the 4 year mark so I mentioned to him being due soon for Pneumonia shot and he said they Changed the regime only Give it Once as they had a lot of Problems with people having reactions to boosters they wont take the risk
So I guess Get your Pneumonia shot then just Flu Boosters each year
if your worried about reactions to either I am one of those people that react to Everything But I didn't have a problem with either of these shots

P.S I just noticed you said you had Pneumonia shot Because you HAD Pneumonia ?

 was it the Vaccine or a treatment at the time for Pneumonia ?

as I would think they would give you the shot After you got Better Not while you had the illness

You can always ask your doctor, but I was told every 10 years for the pneumonia and my last shot worked for those 10 yrs, but I cannot get this shot again as I had a reaction to it. I also had a reaction this year to the tetnusis (sp?) shot, The flu shot you need every year!

My Doctor each year tells me to get the Flu shot but I never have. Same with Pneumonia. The last time I remember getting the flu shot I had the flu that year terribly. It was the year that I started showing symptoms of RA as well. I'll take my chances.

Hi  Don Yes I Said same thing Didn't get Either shot Believed they were Hype

My Doctor was Always on me Get it - Get it But NO

Then I Got the FLU and after 5 Weeks of Virtually  Laying unable to Breath

I Had Never Been that ill before and I've had Pneumonia Multiple times 

I Got the Flu shot the next season along with the Pneumonia shot and that was 5 yrs. ago now

 and I Will Not miss one

I asked my doc. I should get the flu shot..and the pneumonia shot last for a while...like 5 years or longer...I have not yet went to get the flu shot..I don't really want to get sick..I know some ppl do!:-\
