Does anyone know the different stages to RA while taking methotrexate and plaquenil.My husband is taking these 20mg mtx injection each week and has been on for a year.But his hands are stiffening up again like they did in the beginning.Is this all part of the RA process or does this mean he needs new meds added to what he is already on.Thanks..

I think it means he needs to be reevaluated and see if he needs to be switched or more added.

Couchtater is right, he needs to be reevaluated. Good lucki! How often does your husband go to the rheumo doctor? I go every two months.

Thanks couchater for saying so.That was my opinion as well.
He was hit fast and hard with RA.He woke up one morning
a year ago and could not close either hand and was in a 10+
level pain for 9-19 month's til the Methotrexate kicked in.
He is now on Plaquenil as well.But from what I am reading on RA
it can change like the wind shakehead

Rheumy is highly popular and very booked.But we can email him
with any concern and he will get back to us.We live in Oklahoma
and have high humidity now so we are thinking it is the weather
idea but we will keep a close eye on things.RA is so confusing sad

My rheumy is very booked too but if I call him, he calls right back and they squeeze me in if he says for them to! He needs to be reevaluated for sure! I take plaquenil 2x a day & methotrexate 15mg on Friday night after about 3 months I couldn't believe very seldom need pain pills & I can almost make a complete fist. Now its been 6 months and only side effects I've had so far is my nails break sooo easy! His meds aren't working any more!

Karen51,thanks for replying.I agree my husbands meds are probably not working the way they should.I have done research on mtx and how it can just stop working for some.He goes in tomorrow thankfully.United Healthcare has dropped his Celebrex but thankfully he is on naproxin now.Our fear is that soon he won't be able to work and then we won't be able to afford the higher end drugs confused But all we can do his take this one step at a time

humidity definitely increases my symptoms. Only thing worse is cold, raw, weather-goes straight to my joints.

Biscuitsnbeans,
I like mine with sausage gravy, but beans are good too, tee hee. If the rheumy and your husband decide to move to a tnf blocker there are assistance programs to help offset the copays, so keep posting. I have some experience with that.

Celebrate life, I love sausage gravy with my biscuits too ha ha.My husbands rheumy put him on Enbrel and gave him a discount card for 6 months so we won't see any out of pocket costs at least.He said even if he got the Enbrel only while his insurance covered it then he would feel much better for that length of time. He is taking the methotrexate and plaquenil along with this.The Dr did say humidity plays a part for some people to have increased pain.So we redid all labs and everything came back with in range.Makes me wonder if Arizona would be better for him.But would lose a very caring helpful Dr.I would love to hear any suggestions on these higher end drugs when you have a low income.

wearyRAsufferer,we too have a hard time with humidity and heat.We both melt ugh ugh!! I have fibromyalgia and Psoriatic arthritis while my hubby has RA.We lived in Michigan where he is from for a few years
but I hated being in the frigid cold and now we deal with icestorms here in Oklahoma.Maybe Arizona is better for us both....
