Hi,
It's just after 8, and I never went to sleep. At 7, I took a shower. I told my husband he had to stay away from me since I feel like a time bomb.

I am on 60 mg of prednisone for four days before I taper down.

Since I got this flare, my shoulders and knees and fingers have gotten so swollen. What got to me was the carpal tunnel that came back last night. I am back to wearing the gloves.

I hate this flare. It feels like the months before I was diagnosed

I also have bipolar I so this amps me up. How often do you have flares, and how do do on this much prednisone?

Patty, That's a lot of prednisone. You should be getting relief, so I can understand your frustration. When I finally said "enough" with the carpal tunnel, I went to ortho and had surgery. No regrets...I have had no problem since, even when I broke my wrist badly. I hope you get some flare relief soon or revisit the rheumy to get different meds.

im new to prednisone and had a flare last week so my rheumy gave me 20mg 3 days to start then 10mg 3 days then 5mg 3days, I noticed It cleared up my swollen eyes my hands and my overall body felt better but I felt like my skin was itchy and gonna just fall off. I woke up on the 5th day and said hell no cause I could barely sleep 4 hrs and wow was I angry. It put me in a bad mood. I cant explain it. I felt as if I was withdrawing in the mornings and had to take the pill to get back to semi normal. that's when I decided to stop it and not finish the 5mg. you are taking a lot of it so I can imagine how it must make you feel. hope you feel better

Previous doc prescribed 30 mg and I couldn't sleep, I felt jittery, and like I wasn't exactly in my body. I quit after first day. My current rheumy prescribed leflunomide (generic Arava) and Plaquenil and I felt pretty good for years. When I started having bad flares he wanted to add 5 mg prednisone. I resisted because of awful reaction to 30mg dose years earlier. I finally gave in and surprised how it helped and no apparent side effects. Now last couple years 5 mg not enough and back to horrible flares. Rheumy would not increase prednisone Rx beyond 5 mg daily. Not good to take too much prednisone daily. He added Orencia infusion every 4 weeks. I hope your rheumy will work with you on drugs other than prednisone that work for you. Also, most of the time carpal tunnel flares ease up for me when I use a carpal tunnel brace as soon as I start to feel tingling in my wrist/hand. I love the ones that have cushioning beads in the palm so I don't feel the metal brace.
