Anyone on Limbrel

I am an experiment once again. My Rhuemy has put me on Limbrel twice a day. It is a new anti inflamatory that is classed as a medical food. Anybody have any experience with this or any other medical food? Any information will be appreciated.

Hey Mark, you're such a pioneer! :) Unfortunately I don't have any information on this stuff.. I googled it and found that it seems to be pretty successful... Do you have OsteoArthritis? It seems to be prescribed for that... let us know how you are doing.. Duck

A medical food, huh?  Sounds intriguing.  Does it taste good?

I found this on about.com...

Limbrel is a prescription medication used to treat inflammation. This FDA approved medication is known as a "botanical medical food." Limbrel is made from the bark and root extracts of two botanicals. The medication is an a class of substances called flavonoids, and works by inhibiting enzymes that cause inflammation.

The exciting part about Limbrel is that it does not appear to have the significant side-effects seen with other types of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. In particular, Limbrel appears to be safe in elderly patients, and in patients who have a history of stomach ulcers. These patients often could not take other medications for arthritis--now Limbrel may present a reasonable option.

Seems to be pretty cool... you'll have to let us know what happens Mark!

I do have Osteoarthritis just about everywhere and so I am in the group that should benift from Limbrel. I have only been on it about 4 days and so far I don't see any changes. I will be on 250 mg twice a day for about 3 more days and then I will go up to 500 mg twice a day.

As to how it taste. It taste better than most blue pills but not nearly as good as blueberry pie tongue .

The one positive for me is that I have zero side effects and from what I have read that is normal. I read in a few places that there are no side effects and then in a few others there were some listed but so far for good or for bad I can't tell any difference in how I feel. My Rhuemy said she thought I would have to go to 500 mg twice a day before I got any benefit just because I seem to respond slowly to most drugs. I will try to keep you posted on how things go.

Well, if you mash it up and put it in a blueberry pie, it may taste better! :) Good luck to you, let us know when you get upped to 500mg! And if you have any side effects :)

good luck! actually, natural things take WAY LONGER to work than regular medicine. for instance fish oil? for it to work to full potential, it has to be taken EVERY day for up to 6 to 7 months for it to reach therapeutic levels. (things bottles do not tell you!)
give it lots of time! i'm so very happy for you! this is very interesting.

Oh, fish oil... I have a story about that... I started to take fish oil and within the first day I had to quit... I couldn't stand burping that taste... it was absolutely retched to me... yuck... ! :(

cool  best fish oil to date?  "Cor-Omega Fish Oil"  it comes in like a ketchup packet and it's orange; about a teaspoon custard like texture.  and it tastes like that vanilla and orange swirl soft serve icecream ya used to get on the beach as a kid! cool

what a way to ruin good memories of cremsicle swirl ice cream.....fish oil...ugh i dont think no matter how good the results.... yeah not even a tsp of sugar would help that go down, in any delightful way! ~*yalinda

I thought I would give an update on things. I am going to 500 mg twice a day. So far I can't tell I am taking the Limbrel but on a positive note I don't have any side effects either which for me is a big plus

It takes 3 months to really see a difference. At about 2 weeks I questioned whether  I was noticing a difference and then as time went by there was no question, it does help.

Thought I needed a second round of cortisone injections in both knees, but, after being on Limbrel for a while I did not need the injection. I could once again get up and down from a chair without feeling I was going to crack/break in the groin area.

Had Trigger Fingers and Trigger Thumbs. Had surgery on one thumb and later asked  the orthopedic surgeon what he was going to do about the other thumb and fingers and he said "nothing, wait and see what Limbrel does". After being on Limbrel several months there is no need for help with the other Trigger fingers/thumb.

Limbrel is not a cure, it reduces misery enough that you can enjoy life again.

I have RA and I'm going to try limbrel today. I'm also looking for information. I'll post with my results.
