You guys are great. Thanks. I liked #3 suggestion for some reason...what a stinky mess that would be that I wouldn't (hopefully) have to clean up! tongue

I have 75 lbs to loose, it started coming on because of immobility and steroids, it got worse from depression (eat eat eat), and now it stays on because of bad liver/metabolism and bouts of depression (snack snack snack). I think I told you before how messed up things are on the inside - when I had mono, I didn't eat much of anything for about 12 weeks (I calculated 500-700 calories a day at best for most of the 3 months) - someone w/my kind of weight to lose should have lost at LEAST 30 pounds. I barely lost 10.

For shame on that pediatrician to shame you - I think some people think that is the way to get someone off their butt and do something (sometimes it works, but it's not a very nice way of going about it and to do it to a CHILD - shame on them!!!!!!)

I totally agree Camama. SHAME ON HIM. And you stop being so hard on yourself also..what will be will be. It is hard enough for us to be sick without making ourselves crazy over something we can't help!

Moaning everyone... I just got back from my vacation and I am trying to play catch up on all the posts... Hope all is well with everybody... el, you kill me! So glad you're here!

sad  I'm moanin' this evenin' sad

Don't think I can tolerate oral steroids any longer.  Up all nite nauseous & rapid heartbeat.  Helped the throbbing in the elbows...but still having so much trouble with the knees & walking. eyes And the joint pain is horrendous still. 

Not feeling well.

Erin--here's to a better morning than the night you just had.  I remember the prednisone days (oops, nights) well!  No sleep at all.  I felt great, but couldn't come down off that pred high you get that makes you climb up the walls.  I could have gutted and re-done our entire house in a week with pred!  I don't recall it making me nauseous, though.  To experience the side effects of the drugs in addition to hurting from the RA must bite.  I do so hope you feel better today.

pred makes you high? My medications need to be SERIOUSLY readjusted.

Don't worry Dave it's not a desireable high. tongue When on steroids, they can make you a bit hyper. The insomnia stinks.  Stinks BAD! Was subjected to watching "Untamed Heart" at 2am. eyes geezaloo!

Not sure what to make of this.  Don't know if it's a combo of everything? The current flare, plus the recovery from the knee injections & that screwy doctor mangling my joints & the storms coming in? 

Just don't get it.  Tried walking & it's a shuffle.  Like a Parkinson's shuffle! I suppose because my feet blew up from the pred. Hands too. YUCK!

I'll be glad when I get back to my previous state of functioning (yeah that's asking for a lot!) ...this is starting to tick me off.

mad  This still stinks mad

Going for an xray Monday or Tuesday if this continues.  Need crutches now...can't put any weight on the right knee.  My doc is in the office till 1230 tomorrow, so if it's a bad nite I'll bite the bullet & get seen.

Blah.

Erin, I have been on 5 mgs. of preds. for about a year or more and my feet and hands are very swollen. I do have R.A. but never connected the swelling with preds before. Probably because I am on such a low dose. Do you think such a low dose could cause the swelling?? My feet especially hurt very bad and I can only wear certain types of tennis shoes. I need to have a revision on my bi-lateral knee replacements, but the rehab is so strenious after knee surgery that with my feet like this , I am not sure I could do it. Good talking to you. Moaning Everyone... Is very hot and humid here already.. joints are NOT happy, but what can you do right?

Erin, I hope you get seen today by your doc to try and figure out what the deal is with your knees... Make sure he knows it's 'cause of what that SSI doc did... Let us know what happens.

Nic-Nac, long term steroid use can cause swelling and at times irreversible swelling. I was on Prednisone for over a year and I have the buffalo hump and moon face commonly associated with long term steroids.

hey nic! ugh...i don't know, but the same day & the day after i take a 20mg dose of pred my feet blow up!  it's like automatic! eyes they feel tight, kinda pulsating a bit, a little red, and my toes turn a funny shape.  i find it hard to believe that it happens so fast...but it does.  and 5mg @ for a long time i believe could do the same.

i woke up no worse, no better than last nite.  but should this leg give out i'm going to the ER.  i fear it might be infected...but not getting freaked out by it.  that's my only reasoning for this knee situation.  that or it's just injured from last friday.

and yeah...everyone is on my case about calling & making a complaint that the SSI doc did me in at the appt and made my joints worse.  so i have to that monday too. mad .

hah...my honey made fun of me. he wants to do a "Boxing Helena" on me! tongue if anyone knows the movie you'll get it.  but this woman is just a torso...no arms no legs! and is kept in a box. LOL.  hmmmmm? doesn't sound that bad. tongue

will keep you updated. {think i had too much fun coloring here today!}

Hmmm I had to google Boxing Helena. Ever sweet! And it's not even Valentine's! Sorry you're havin such a chitty day, and yesterday, and day before and however many it's been now. Glad you're filing a complaint against Dr McJackAsh. It's good you're practicing colouring, it's the only thing that passed the time for me once they gave me my crayons back. Cheerios!

Just a quick check-in.  Today has been a horrible day.  Woke up stiff, sore, and grouchy.  I really hate it when I feel bad, and others just interpret it as me being in a bad mood.  I don't have obvious swelling like some of you guys (and I'm glad about that), but when people can't see inside, it sure would help interpretation if I had a basketball for a knee :) 

By the way, I never got approved for the 100 mg of enbrel/week.  But it's just as well--looking at the way I've felt for the past two months, enbrel is just not the right drug for me.  Which would make sense if I really have the arthritis associated with early lupus.  I'm asking about mtx in a couple of weeks.  For not, a couple of ultracet and a beer would be just about right. 

Hope everyone had a better Saturday than I did.  Erin, hon, I hope the swelling goes down soon and you get those knees looked at.  I'm going to take a blistering hot bath.

Oh "el" you're gonna be a meth shooter! hoorah! I pray to God that my house never gets broke in by the police...I've a draw full of syringes. From the looks of my bedroom you'de think I ran an illegal RX ring! I do have crackheads that live on my street so the cops would be close at least. Oy!

I had quite an intersting evening at home. Now I know why I don't come home often. My mother lost a bag of cat poop. (don't ask) and my grandmother spent 3 hours complaining about how much she hates "those da** seniors"! hah! and she's 86! It's funny now...mom had a cot in the kitchen & granny's in the living room. add in 4 cats. geesh...thank God I'm ill! lol...times like this it actually pays off. I GET THE BEDROOM!

Dear Ducky and Erin, Thanks so much for the answers on swelling and preds. Ducky, do you still take prednisone? Erin I sure hope your leg gets better fast. Having a knee that gives out on you is not alot of fun. I hope you can have your doctor look at them right away. Elcamino, I have been on Mtx. for about 2 years now and previously had been on Humira. Hands down I would tell anyone that Mtx. , at least for me, has been much easier , in all ways , to take. Good luck. I'm wishing all of you on Healing Well a pain-free Sunday. Talk to you soon. Moanin' Everyone! Well it is 922 and I feel pretty good considering I had a drink for just about everyone on this thread last night... :) It's stormy here though, so I won't be venturing outside much... just hang out on the couch and catch up on some movies... maybe I'll watch Boxing Helena? :)

El - How are you today? Any better?
Erin - Did your mom find the bag of poop? That's too funny..
Nic - No, I'm not on the prednisone anymore... but I still have the swelling from it, I was told it was permanent and will never go away, unless I have plastic surgery...nice huh?

Hmmm can't say I ever lost a bag of cat poop, although I did lose a bag of cats once. They turned up in the river after the ice melted. So that's kinda similar.*

We have a slew of thunderstorms this a.m. as well (though actual rain fall will be slight) - right in the middle of a heatwave - man, I sure feel like we're on the East Coast! This is SO UN-like San Diego! It's kinda freaky! I don't recall a June storm like this in quite a while!
