Does cortisone cause swelling?

Hi all,

I had 2 injections Monday in my lower back or higher butt, depending on one's perspective I guess :)  The rheumy said they were trigger points. My knees were swelled. The only way that I could tell was I couldn't squat. My feet and ankles may have been swelled prior to the cortisone injection, I don't know, but boy they are swelled now. I think my legs are too. Can't really tell. Thanks for any info :)

Thanks Curley:) Don't mind the med question at all. I take a beta blocker, Atenolol, 50mg/day. Lasix, 40mg as needed, Plavix 75mg/day, Lexapro 20mg/day, Prilosec 40mg/day, Imdur (timed released nitroglycerin) 30mg/day, Neurontin 1200mg/day. I recently had to stop Altace, and ACE inhibitor. I took it for 3 years but developed a well known, adverse reaction (dry cough and respiratory problems). I just started with the Tramadol about 3 weeks ago. I don't take it everyday. My rheumo just prescribed Xanax Monday, believe it or not, .5mg/2x/day. I have only took about 5 doses. He told me that I was an extreme A type, and that I was nervous. I told him doctors got on my nerves, lol.

I am used to edema, but I always have noticed it in my hands and gut. Something new everyday, right? I am afraid I will become addicted to the Xanax. Years ago, my PCP prescribed Ativan for me, due to anxiety. He refilled the prescription 3 or 4 times. I went back for another refill and he said no, this stuff is very addictive. I said no kidding. I bought them off the street for 2 more years. Tried many times to stop, but I had to go to D&A rehab to get it done. What a nasty trip!

I got the cortisone injections due to what the doc said could be Baker's cysts (behind my knees) and I guess the trigger points were tender. I had an MRI of my knees Wednesday. Haven't heard anything as of today.

I spoke with my Endocronoligist and he said that I have Osteopenia and if I ever get steroids again I would have to go in meds for the Osteopenia,,does that mean cortisone injections as well???? Do they fall into the category that puts me at risk???
