First off.......hello!
I am 'brand new' to the forum and was just looking through the different threads and noticed yours! Not sure if what I had done was a 'fusing' but my dr. in Denver removed the joint (both hands) from the base of my thumbs because of the unbearable pain and the failure of the injections (also enough to make me break into a sweat). When he 'took out' the joint, he made a small incision about 10 inches up the inside of my arm and cut a tendon; then pulled it out from the joint end and rolled it up to use as a replacement for the bad joint that was removed. It would harden over time and 'become' the joint.
This surgery certainly took away the pain. It also added a whole new take on how the arms adjust to the absence of just one little ol' tendon. Quite the experience and overall (three yrs later) the solution to my hand pain. Difficulty adjusting to say the least.
Hope this helps and my thoughts are with you!
