Hi everyone,

I'm taking the plaquenil (400mg) and I have noticed that in the shower, my hair has started to come out, and I have developed a rash on my back.  The rash doesn't really itch, but it can be painful at times.  I'm wondering if anyone else on plaquenil has had these symptoms?

I'm also wondering if it makes you thirsty?  My mouth is always so dry, and I'm always drinking something, to the point that I am having to run to the restroom (so sorry if TMI!!) now I have had to go to the doctor because my bladder is over active eyes

Hopefully, someone else has had these symptoms while on plaquenil, or I am just smurf When I first started the plauenil, I developed sores in my nose, and horrible acne, but my doctor said it had nothing to do with the medication and he didn't know what that was about...so I hate to go back and say...I'm losing my mind..I mean my hair smurf eyes

hi m23! i dont take plaquenil so i cant answer that part but i do know dry mouth and eyes are RA related. it may be increased with this med? the rash could be a couple of things so i would seek advice from maybe ur pharm?

my hair thinned much more this shedding season too ...... my hairdresser says i still have alot and she has many customers this year inquiring about hair shedding. i say it is global warming lol or el nino! lol

sorry if i made light of it ( thats just my sick humor :P ) .... i really just dont have answers but others who take plaquenil might .... i take mtx sry..... so other than going bald -having a rash and sores all over- and severe thrist- is it working on the pain? gosh that reread sounded horrible but seriously are u feeling better joint wise? i hope so...... ar least the rash doesnt itch like erins? well i g2g2w lata yalinda :)

Hey Momto3.. Click on this link... I think you will find some interesting info there.. then print that page out and take it to your doctor.. everything you are experiencing are known side effects of plaquenil...

Here is a quote from the link above... "Skin rashes sometimes occur; pigmentary changes in skin and mucous membranes, bleaching of hair, and alopecia have also been reported. These usually resolve readily upon cessation of therapy. Isolated cases of exfoliative dermatitis have been reported."

So the stuff with your skin and hairloss has been reported... And it says on that page also that it can cause skin irritation, to not take it if your have Psoriasis (I don't know if you do or not) 'cause it will exacerbate the plaques... and it mentions something about acne and nose sores too... hhmmm

At least you're not losing your mind... Just your hair.. tongue hang in there and keep us posted...

Hey girl, how are you getting along? I hope you are doing well :-)   I have an appointment next Tuesday with my Rheumy, the plaq just isn't working as well as I had hoped, although without it, I wouldn't be able to get around at all.  I am going to ask him for another Medrol dose pack, since this has work so well in the past :-) .  I don't mind the humor, because gosh, you have to laugh or else you are going to lose your mind, you know??

Ducky...Thank you for that information..I will tell the doc, when I go next Tuesday, and hopefully the crazy rash will still be there, maybe he will give me something for it, then I can take one med, to counteract, the med I am already on smurf   how nutty.

i'm not taking plaquenil...but from being on several immunosuppressants i'm getting these boil-like sores all along my hairline and also in the middle of my back & on my shoulders (on the boney parts).

 

there like dime size...oozie and just plain old yuck!

 

even my docs say it's from immunosupressants.  so that could be a suspect.

Hey Mom,

I take Plaquenil, and don't suffer any side effects yet. But my Rheumy quickly dropped me down to 300mg because of my weight (120lb). Any chance you need a smaller dose?
