   So i was supposed to have my first remicade infusion yesterday (friday) but i got a freaking sore throat. they had to reschusle me for this thursday coming up. That sucks i was actually looking forward to it, I had been so scared for the past souple of months and when i finally get the sourage to do it i get a sore throat. Well know my throat is fine but now im getting congested what a bummer. I feel so awful, i had to ask for that say off and now i gotta try n get thursday off. I dont know what to do. I dont know if I should tell them why i'll be missing the day or just keep that to my self. In a way i want to say something, because im gonna be missing a few more days in a couple weeks, but then i really dont want anybody to know besides my family and close friends. What should I do?

Hi....So sorry. Make sure you let your doctor know if your not feeling well at all. I think I had a slight sore throat before my Enbrel and I have been sick for two weeks. I mean really sick. I started antibiotics yesterday and I am feeling a little better. As far as work it kind of depends on the environment you work in. Everyone at work knows about my RA. I told them because I didn't want the pressure of hiding anything. Then they know why I am asking for some accomadations. They been very good. Prior to telling them it looked like one thing after the other. A surgery here and there. Crutches etc. Now it all makes sense. I am doing much better. I have to say my boss has been wonderful. I also try very hard to reduce my time off by scheduling things all on the same day or my day off. I am a social worker though and so I am lucky the whole office is a touchy feely bunch.

Sandie...bummer!!!!!!!!  but, this too shall pass & your infusion will be here lickity-split.  just think, if you had gone & you did have an infection or something in the throat...perhaps you would have gotten doubly sick!

 

if i were you, i think i would absolutely tell my manager or employer "Every so-and-so weeks I'll need to be having to get a treatment at the hospital...."  and explain what Remicade is.  i feel that by giving a fair and well-ahead-of-time warning of what's going on, when it'll be happening, and so on.....will make you look very responsible.  i don't think any employer in their right minds would hold this against someone.

 

and should your infusions go really well, and after a few they get quicker....ya might even wanna return to work the same day of the infusion. 

 

things will work out.  but yeah...i would let them know too.

        Thank u  guys Soooo much. I will tell my boss first thing monday morning. I LOVE this place everyone here is so nice and understanding. When it comes to my R.A. and i have problems or ??? it just seems like no one else understands but you guys. THANX again.

Sandie Hi,

I so can relate as to whatr you are going through and you are right it does suck.I do not take remicad we but I do take Humira and I have not been able to take the Humira because (1)I have gotten the shingles and I have a really bad cold and I also have had a staph infection going on as well.I tell you I have been paying the price for not being able to take my Humira.Most mornings it takes me for ever to get out of bed and then it takes about two hours before i can half way function.

Sandie....Let us know when you start the infusions. I think quite a few people here take the same medication and can support you along the way. Also let us know how you reveal goes on Monday................Best of luck

Best wishes on your 1st infusion. I remember I was ECSTATIC when my GI doc called the chemo-lab...and 1,2,3,...Badda Bing! I was there 1st thing on Monday Oct 9th 2006!
Eat well this week, get a lot of rest....and relax when you get there, you'll do alright Sandie.

    Ok so my appt. is for thursday morning hopefuly i will be better buy then, i really doubt it though cuz my sore throat turned in to a cough. its not that bad so god willing i will get better by then. Lets cross our fingers. ive been doing everything i can think of to make this go away.but there only so much i can do. Well i'll keep ya posted.

in my prayers Sandie...i know how much of a b**** this is to keep on having to delay your infusion when looking forward to it. sit tight! :) you'll get there. rest up gal! here's to THURSDAY!!! and hopin' that you actually get there this time!

Sandie sorry for your delay. I think I have got the same crud. I have been crying to Ducky on another thread. Every week I think I am at the end of it and it dragggggggsssss on. My doctor called it the crud and he was right. Baby yourself and rest. It will happen as soon as you are healthy. I hope you get relief right away. Thoughts are with you dearie.

maybe it the healing well crud? tee hee hee.. everyone.. get your bottles of lysol and spray your keyboards.. we're spreading the crud through the internet! ha! LOL LOL.. ok, I'm delirious!

But on a serious not, you're right Diva.. you BOTH need to rest and baby yourself so that you feel better.. take a nice long bath and just soak and sleep for about 10 hours.. :)

     So my appt. was rescheduled again, for monday morning. Im glad to report im finally gettin better just got the sniffles now. I cant belive that just 1 month ago i was terrified of this remicade now i cant wait. Im seriously lookin foward to it.

It took me months and a lot of support to start the Enbrel. Now I am afraid I will need to stop it or that it won't work. I am waiting for the day that I can just forget about the RA and have a normal day. I hope the remicade knocks it into remission and you can just go forward.
