Hi there all. I was on prednisone for about 18 months. I never got puffy faced but I think my boobs got bigger. I went up one cup size, and it hasn't gone away yet! Didn't see that in the side effect list. I did gain 5 pounds but lost it when I stopped the prednisone. I also was very hyper constantly moving around cleaning sewing etc.

Oooooh! my boobs grew too! who woulda thought?!?!?!? at 25 years old i finally got a chest! LOL...think it puts me at an official "A Cup"....LOL

Hello Kibbles,

I have to tell you that prednisone worked well for me, and it works in a matter of hours, it allowed my swelling to go down which alleviated my pain.  As for the "puffy moon face" oh yeah, I have gained so much weight, it isn't even funny.  I was told anything over 7.5 mg per day, for long periods of time (months) would cause irriversible damage.  I personally have stopped taking it and have just dealth with the pain.  I have used Planquenil and Methotrexate, neither of which have worked for me.  I have Sjogren's Syndrome, my dr. calls it "a little bit of this and a little bit of that" (lupus, arthritis and sjogren's).  I'm not sure what my next step is, I would love to take a non-Rx drug if possible, if anyone has any ideas please feel free to enlighten me. sad

yeah  hi all well just an update from anne aussieland i have not had any side effects at all from the pred been feeling great still takin 5.5 tablets this week 5 next week went back to line dan cing today and danced for the 2 hrs with no pain but still cannot do my tap dancing but at least i am getting my excercise in lol go for my walk eery morning with kodak my crapzu dog and we go round the lakes together all in all i feel great hope everyone pain gets easier for them like mine has my eneergy has increased but then so has my appetite lol have to watch my weight dont want to put on any going for a manicure on thursday and hair done on friday it has been a long time since i felt like doing any of these things so hope it keeps up my ruemy is great he was on tv the other night regarding RA i am going o his seminar next month here in queensland all for now

Hi all, Well I'm doing pretty good. The pain and swelling seems to have subsided in my hands (still feel it though), but now I am having alot of ache in the morning with my ankles and legs and knees. Just a few more days of the 20mg pred. Can't tell if the MTX is working for me, or if its the pred. working. Either way, i feel better. Knock on wood! Lots of energy, but big appitite too. Don't need any swelling in the bra area LOL! Tummy and face i can do without too. All take care, Kibby

Hi to all here.I am new here and have psoiritic arthritis and have been treating it with methyltrexate by injection once weekly and pred once daily.I have been on the preds for about a year.I started with 10 mg a day and went to 5 mg after several months and now down to 2.5 mg daily.I seem to be under decent control now with minor stiffness.The pred did a great job with me as I could hardly move before taking it.I did gain a bit of weight around the stomach,but it has gotten almost back to normal since dropping the dosage.I don't know if it is related,but not long after my pred and mtx usage I noticed that when going to the washroom #2 the smell is just horrible now.It never used to be like this.I am curious if any of you have had this?

Hi United,welcome!! No i haven't had the smelling bathroom issues, not any different than the smelly issues before I started pred. and MTX. LOL! This week is the last week of the higher pred. dose and I drop back down after friday. I do hope the puffiness goes away too. It's really not all that bad I guess, but I have noticed it. Take care. Hi Kibbles (and bits) lol...I am sorry to have to ask such an awful question.I just am too embarassed to ask my doctor this.I know that pred has many side effects and was thinking that it may cause bathroom visits to smell horrible like that.I really don't know what else it could be as I have not changed my diet in any way.I know that I do get upset stomaches from time to time and figured this was the preds too.Also I have heard that preds are not for long time use because of the side effects and was thinking that because I have been on it a year that maybee it has done some type of bowel damage.I generally go to the bathroom when alone at home and open the windows but a few days ago I was faced with having to go at a gathering at a friends house.I slipped downstairs when nobody was looking rather than use the upstairs bathroom.I got back upstairs undetected after I had finished but about 15 minutes later several of the people went downstairs for some reason and when they came back up they were all talking about the awful smell in the basement and one lady even said it smells like the sewers were backed up.They had no clue that I had been down there and I simply played dumb and had to bite my lip to stop myself from laughing.So now you know my dilema.When I started mtx I was taking 10 mg and then they dropped it down to 8 mg.What is your dosage? I was afraid to self inject at first and went to my doctors but then I decided to learn and am now self injecting in the thigh.Do you self inject? Thanks DAVID.

You poor thing! LOL! No, as i said i have no bowel issues, but someone else on here may be able to shed some light on that for you. Right now i take 20mg pred. and I take pill form of MTX. You just may want to mention it to your Dr. As long as your bowels seem normal (other than smelling bad) i wouldn't think it has caused any damage in that area. It may be a digestion issue though. Don't be to shy to talk to your DR. I had a friend who had gastric bypass surgery, and she smelled like raw sewage in the bathroom. I think it was because the food din't have time to properly process thru all the stomach. But again it was nothing wrong, just stinky. Maybe Erin will get in on this and give you someher opinion. i am 48yr old male , i have a stent in my heart, my doctor tells me its safe for me to take 10mg of predisolone a day?? is this correct?? and whats the difference between predisone and predisolone??

"Prednisone and prednisolone are synthetic members of the glucocorticoid class of hormones. They are an intermediate acting, broad anti-inflammatory, medication. Typically stating, this means that the action of one dose lasts from a day to a day and a half.

Prednisone and prednisolone have less activity than the longer acting dexamethasone or betamethasone, but exhibit greater activity than hydrocortisone.

Though prednisone and prednisolone are used in the same manner and equally as effective, they should not be confused with each other. Prednisone is activated by the liver into prednisolone. For this reason, and because it is more easily absorbed, prednisolone is the drug of choice when hepatic disease or insufficiency is present.

Both prednisone and prednisolone are readily absorbed and distributed into muscle, liver, intestines, and kidneys. It is also distributed in breast milk and crosses the placental barrier. Glucocorticoids have been found to cause abortion and should not be used in pregnant animals.

They are both metabolized in the liver, and excreted in the urine."

I am finishing week 2 of 10mg. Prednisone. I am having a puffy face right now. I don't know if its the Prednisone or if its my allergies which are very bad from the trees right now. I would like to share info with you. I feel kind of jittery and have had some muscle twitching. I know that it is working because within a few days my joint pain went away and my SED rate already went down. I am having a brain fog this morning so I hope this makes sense. Hope you feel better as quickly as I did when I started Prednisone.

Hi Kibbles. Thought I would share my experience too. I have had JRA sinceI was 2. I have been on and off prednisone for years. The highest dose I've been on is 100 mg a day. That was because I flared badly. I agree that everyone reacts differently. I always got the puffy face. I also got sores in my mouth. The best thing I found was taking my pred with food in the morning. I also would brush my teeth and tongue after eating so to stop the sores in my mouth. Its a wonderful drug to get rid of pain and inflammation. However my personal experience is dont be on it years and years such as I have been. It did major joint damage to my left ankle. Steroids errodes the bones. To answer you other question about Methotrexate. I have been on that for 2 years now. I take 32 mg a week. I would recommend taking folic acid with it. I usually take them at night because of the nausuosness. But remember everyone is different and hopefully you wont experience this side effect. I wish you all the best and will say a prayer for you. My experience with Pred:

The Good: took away almost all the pain and swelling (which was really bad) almost instantly.

The Bad: after a few months, my immune system was so bad that I started getting back-to-back, violent illnesses one after another, and some on top of each other.

I took myself off of it against the doctor's wishes, which left me on MTX only, which worked fine by itself for a long time (on Enbrel only now and it is working great for me).

I ordered Prednisone from www.medsheaven.com and I am very happy with this product, it is very effective...
