How do they do Synvisc ?

I know that they are injections BUT do they put you to sleep to do them? They would have to be awful painful! eyes   Do they use a local or numbing agent? Would just like to know what is going to happen before hand!

Thank you Jem,

    Do you know if they can do the Synvisc in the hip? My hip is in bad shape and I need help with it first.

Maybe I would be better off to just get

hip surgery and be done with it!How long does the Synvisc last?

It's for treatment of knees with OA, not for hips.

From Synvisc web site:

"SYNVISC is a treatment option called a viscosupplement. It replaces damaged synovial fluid with a substance similar to that found in healthy joints of 18- to 27-year-olds.

In knees with osteoarthritis, normal joint fluid, called synovial fluid, becomes thinner, losing its ability to lubricate and cushion the knee joint. Without this cushioning, cartilage in the knee joint may wear down over time, causing pain and stiffness. SYNVISC can improve the cushioning and lubricating effects of synovial fluid that has been damaged by OA."
Lasts about 6 months after course of treatment.

Thank You Jem. Guess I'll have surgery on my hip. The pain is severe.
