One more question. Has anyone been diagnosed with vitiligo along with RA?  I now have vitiligo that has started to spread all over my body like weeds.  Is this something that anyone has heard of before?  The rheumatologist did a vitamin d bloodtest to make sure I'm not low, but he said thats not the problem.  He said that occasionally people develop other autoimmune issues, and since vitiligo is autoimmune, it is probably RA related. The lighter spots don't bother me appearance-wise, but I wonder what else I am yet to learn about this disease.  Thanks for any info.

I have RA but several of my family members have vitiligo. That is one of the weird autoimmune things autoimmune disorders run in families but not always the same disease and not always in straight lines.

Are you talking about the white spots that are on the skin? I'm fair skinned and seem to have developed these white spots, also some are like small thin streaks of white, almost like the color has vanished? Also these little brown spots, even where sun does not reach, so it can't be caused by sun damage, and  I'm not old so it can't be the liver spots that you hear about.  But yes, I think I know what you are talking about, between the two things, I'm ready to stay in long sleeves!

How do you get rid of these white spots? I showed them to my rheumy and he said he didn't know what they were, and they weren't caused by any of my meds, RA etc.

I was diagnosed with vitiligo a couple years ago. The white spots typically begin around the ends of fingers- I thought my nail polish remover was removing the color of my skin around the nailbed, white areas around mouth, and near outer corners of eyes. That was the info. my dermatologist gave me, and sure enough where mine is most evident. I am now experiencing very achy hand joints, so seeing if there is a possible link.... darn autoimmune stuff!!

YES i also, Diagnosed Vitiligo in early teens did a michael Jackso went from Dark Skined within 5 years to Lilly Whit and i now Burn Like a Tomato

the RA was not Fully Diagnosed for some 6-8 years after by fully i mean i couldn't get a straight answer and try to get 2 Rhumatoligists to agree with each other - 3 Rhumy's 3 Diffrent Diagnosis

But i was Told Vitilligo is an Auto immune Diease and related to RA

I was diagnosed with Vitiligo when I was 5 yrs old I am now 34, but back then they didn't know much about the disorder and I was just diagnosed a little over 48 hours ago with Aggressive Rheumatoid Arthritis and the autoimmune disorders run on my fathers side of the family. My late great aunt had RA and Scleroderma, my Aunt has Multiple sclerosis, and a distant cousin has Vitilogo also. I am still learning more information everyday and how it all connects and all differ.

I am trying to find out information regarding the connection between vitiligo and cartilage degeneration. Have you seen or learned any information regarding this connection?
