arthritis in the hips

I have arthritis in my hips and it hurts so bad. Im on calcuim. I know in my post people post about anti inmflammatories well I can not take any antimflammatories I have a bleeding gastric ulcer , gerd,hiatal hernia and gastroparesis. So what am I to do? I take soma ,lortab and lyrica.

Hi Kara,

My daughter cannot take NSAIDS either and was recently prescribed Tramadol for pain.  It's not NSAID so it doesn't contribute to bleeding and it's not a narcotic so it doesn't knock you out.  Hope this helps!

Kara, at some point, some people need hip replacements when they can no longer deal with the pain and physical limitations that comes as the disease worsens. I use tramadol daily for my arthritis and vicodin when that doesn't cut it.

I know two people who have had total hip replacements and both were back to work in six weeks (one is a lead carpenter so not easy physical work). They are both in less pain after the surgery and the carpenter wishes he had done it years ago as it helped his back pain as well (he had been so out of balance from the bad hip it caused back spasms).

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain..I have had a great deal of pain in my hips as well from the arthritis and the NSAIDS didn't even begin to help.  Have you tried other medications such as Methotrexate, Plaquenil or the biologics like Enbrel? Maybe trying some of the stronger medications that are not NSAIDS will help..I went during a long period of burning hip pain and it was almost unbearable..finally it has went away.

Hi Kara,
My Dad had hip replacement surgery awhile ago and he is doing much better since he had the surgery. I have some pain in my left hip and one day I will need the same surgery.
