Information about Biologics Please

Hi all,

I saw my rhumi yesterday and have to come off the methotextrate as I have has 3 colds in 2 months, my hair has been falling out, terrible terrible fatigue and no appetite what so ever and my inflamatory level this month was 24. I have RA and Osteo. In australia your inflammatory level has to be over 26 to get biologicals so buy coming off the mxt it is going to go through the roof. We had a long talk about biologicals like Enbrel and Humira - he has 25 patients on them - one died and another nearly died. Yesterday I spent most of the day doing research on them and quite frankly it scares the crap out of me. Do biologicals decrease your immune system more that methotextrate does? Has anyone had any bad reactions to them. Has anyone had any good news on them. This is basically my last hope as we have tried everything else. And I have just started a new job this week and now this.

Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time with the MTX, I have been on Enbrel less than 3 months and also take the MTX with it...I have not had any serious life threatening illnesses while on the Enbrel just a couple of bad colds where I have had to postpone an injection (like now). When I take it, it works for about three days and then that is it so I will soon take it twice per week, but so far so good. Colds and such seem to last longer now with the Enbrel, and sores and such seem to take much longer to heal but other than that I can't think of anything. Hopefully someone else will be along to help.. Although if you are very suppressed by the MTX, I can understand your fear of the biologics.
