I had blood tests in Nov, my RA factor, ANA, and sed rate were all normal.  Do you think that the values can be different now?  Can you go from a RA factorr of 5 having an elevated RA factor?  My pain and swelling have definitely increased over the last few months, I was just wondering if my labe would show something different now.

hi mellymell...from what I have heard you can still have ra and have a normal ra factor and they can tell if you have osteoarthritis from xrays.

I would go back and have the lab tests again. If you go to the library, you can borrow books on arthritis and find out some interesting information.

Hi there, it is possible that your tests could change OR they could remain the same.  I have been tested for the past (almost) three years and mine have always returned negative and my joint pain and inflammation have increased to the point I'm on Enbrel, MTX and Plaquenil.

I was sick for 9 months my doctor was positve I had RA my tests were all normal. Then my inflamation got suddenly much worse and the labs were repeated my RF factor which had been normal two weeks before was 97.
On the other hand lots of people have RA who never test positive for RF.
There are no one size fits all answers its more like anything is possible and diagnosis is usually made by putting together all (or actually some) of the pieces of the puzzle, lab tests, clinical presentation, x-rays etc. I hope you get answers and more importantly treatment.

Thanks for your responses.  :-)

I think I will call my GP and ask him if he will order an arthritis panel for me.  I dont see the rheumy until Aug 13, and I kinda wanted to get the test done while I am in alot of pain, it might show something different than my last set of tests.
