Hi Mom,

Thanks for checking in about my mom..did hear from her doctor today,and really not too sure what all this means.  They said that the stuff in her lungs isn't infection or scar tissue....so we see a lung specialist tomorrow morning.  The report said possible neo-plastic cells, which my understanding is that these can be either pre-cancerous or benign.   I am holding on to the benign part, to say the least.   I have arranged to have the kids covered so that i can take her to the doctor myself.  Then also there is a fluid-filled cyst in her brain that they will do a cat scan on next monday.  They don't seem to concerned about that....and I'm not sure what all this entails.  Please keep us all in your prayers, we appreciate all we can get!   

So sorry your hubby is sick! This has been a terrible year for all this crud!!!  Winter isn't even here yet, and it seems everone I know is fighting some kind of stomach bug or head cold.  Makes me nervous for what is to come!

You know, I keep thinking about you and your oldest son, having been through it all myself, I know how painful all this can be, but  he will come through this with an apprecitation for you and your home that he may not have had otherwise....sometimes it just seems the growth has to come from such a painful place, but am so thankful that you are seeing the light at then end of the tunnel.  Motherhood is agonizing at times!  The greatest of joys but also the deepest of pain....what a journey we all go through with our kids!

Will be in prayer for your daughter as well!  So sorry they don't have this leveled out for her yet!  She's so young....

Jody..Oh dear, I hope it is benign. I've never heard of having a fluid-filled cyst there??? but then I supposed they can show up just about anywhere..We keep up the postive thoughts for you!!!

Hubby is on the tail end of his cold and as you mentioned, it isn't even winter! and whatever it is, we just keep passing it around! My daughter still has her cough from the last time she was sick, it's terrible! We are hoping that when she does her 24 hour collection today, that she won't be spilling and we won't have to increase the med.  Honestly, if she didn't have osteopenia, I wouldn't worry so much about this this, but when she had her dexa-scan, she was 3 standard deviations from the norm, and at this point we have to get her calcium under control, I worry about her bone health.  I never thought I would worry about a 12 year old's bone health!! Thank you for the prayers! We need them at this point, in the beginning, she was fine taking her little kidney pills, but I think she is starting to realize the situation

Raising children can be a challenge and it hasn't been easy with my 17 year old.  I'm not sure what his hurry is at this point, but he quit his job and wants to come home within the next two weeks. He has a car that has issues and will need to be brought back on a trailer, so we have to figure out that situation.  You are very correct, motherhood is an agonizing process at times! You survived it, and obviously have wonderful sons to show for it, so I'm encouraged!

Camama...I'm sorry you have so much on your plate! I hope that your little girl is not getting the flu. Yes, I have been taking the B12's for about 5 months, and they help for a couple of weeks and then seem to wear off for whatever reason.  I hope you are able to get some rest and feel better, and that your little girl feels better soon.

 

Camama...sorry! I guess I misread your post and was thinking your daughter. I hope your son is on the mend.  How are you feeling? any better? I agree a cyst on the brain doesn't sound good either! Thank you for the prayers for my family as well, as I think we are going to need them, our situation is going to be difficult and stressful for a while.

Not much to report, my husband is getting over his cold and I think I'm now the lucky recipient since I have been having the body aches and awful joint pain along with a sore throat, so it is going to be a long week with no rest in sight.  My daughter starts her cheer competitions, and we go to pick up my son this weekend, so another busy week. Not the best time to be sick!!

For some reason, I stopped gettting e-mail alerts that someone had posted..so didn't know that you guys had been  on here.....sorry!

Well, we got good news, I think, from the the doc on Friday.  He is scheduling a needle biopsy on one of the spots in Mom's lung, but he was SO reassuring.  Doesn't feel anything on here fits the "cancer" criteria.  Right now his thoughts are that when she had her shoulder replacement surgery in February, that she asspirated something into that lung, and that is what is causing the problem now.  Of course, he can't say for sure that is isn't cancer, bu he doesn't feel it is, and I will take that!  As far as the cyst in her brain, she had an CAT scan done of that this morning, but the doc on Friday also commented on that as well.  He said that as long as it isn't causing any symptoms. like dizzines, headaches, etc...that he believes that should be just left alone.  He said that it has been there for YEARS and that those type of  cysts are very common.   So, again, we will wait and see what the tests show.  But, all in all I feel MUCH better than I did last week, to say the least!

Gosh, we all just can't catch a break from all this flu stuff, can we??  It's going to be a long, long winter.  Would be so much easier if eveyone in the house could just get it, and get it over with, instead of one at a time!  Then it just drags on for weeks, doesn't it? With all the little ones here, seems like someone is always dripping something!!  As I have said before, from fall til spring, I'm always wiping one end or the other around here!  Don't think I have stopped blowing my nose for weeks, between cold and allergies...can't believe there is anything left up there! Though, there are those who would say there wasn't much up there to begin with..lol.

Got to start back on enbrel today, yeah!!  Almost two weeks since I was able to shoot myself.... it wasn't as horible as I expected, but getting a bit sore in the feet now.  Mom,  I read that you stopped your enbrel due to cost.  If you still ould like to try it, they put me on a new program and my copay is only 10.00 per month!  It's through enbrel themselves, along with my insurance, and they cover all my deductable over the 10.00.  Might be worth looking into, if the enbrel helped you as much as it has me.

Hope both of your families are on the mend and soon!!  ...and Mom, hope it's just the power of suggestion and not the actual bug that is "bugging" you! CaMama, hope you and hubby miss this too!  Bad enough when the little ones are sick!  As for our household, my  hubby is by far the worst patient of them all....gosh he is miserable when he gets sick...just hibernates in the bedroom and growls is anyone comes too close!

Hi guys, mom maybe you're tiredness is from the RA being undertreated? Maybe the enbrel is the answer. I know when I flare like now I get oh so tired.
I'm having a new flare site. My wrists! Really wierd pain, keep wearing my carpel tunnel splints to help them but its a different pain to that. Always something going wrong.
Good to hear your Mom had a more positive diagnosis Jody, what a scare for you all.
Best of luck to you all fighting the flu, its not swine flu I take it?
I took the plunge and had the H1N1 vaccine a couple of weeks ago, I'm hoping it makes a difference to me. I took the kids too, so now its just hubby!
Our house is finally progressing and we have fingers crossed we'll be in for Christmas.

ahhhhhh...did you all have to mention Christmas!!!!!!!  I mean, yes it is my favorite time of year, but....please... I can't even begin to think about getting ready for it ..(actually, my freind and I were just talking about this last night..how the calender is already filling up with Christmas things, and we haven't even gotten through October yet!)..  our son in Memphis is bringing his girlfriend from Germany here for the holiday..and I am already nervous about it!  It will be her first American Christmas, and she usually spends the holiday alone, so I want everything to be PERFECT! But, with four boys, I don't know how to do girls!!!!   Yikes!

Golitho, thanks for the wishes for my MOm, yes to say we are relieved is an understatement!!  The nurse called yesterday and said that the cyst in her brain is definitely benign, but that she will still need a neuro consult, just because it's required after these kinds of tests, but it's nothing at all to worry about.  So, biopsy Friday, then appt to get the result about a week later..so far so good!  You know, you're so right about the fatigue and undertreatment...that makes so much sense!!  I know when I get a flare, I feel like I have mild case of the flu, and struggle just to get moving.  But since the "cocktail" of meds I'm on started workig well, I feel really good most all of the time, and energy isn't really a problem..Most of the time my hubby is after me to sit still and relax a bit!  I am so sorry your wrists hurt!!  That is one of the first places I had problems.  It was Christmas time about 2 years ago, and I just couldn't stir the cookie dough or make candies, because of the pain in my wrists and shoulders.  It was awful!!  I was always afraid I was going to drop things, especially when I was picking up the daycare kids. 

Monday I took m first enbrel after being off for almost two weeks, and thought I was doing pretty well , but the past two days my wrists, hands and feet have acted up again.  Had to stay home from exercise...just couldn't go...and this afternoon when I tried to make cookies, stirring that heavy batter was a real struggle.    Take another shot tomorrow, and I'm hoping it will all kick in pretty soon.  This isn't terrible...but I so much more appreciate how really good I feel with the meds!  I won't ever give up enbrel without a good fight!

Mom, about the swine flu vaccine....my understanding is that the nasal mist is a weakened live virus...and should only be given to healthy people of certain ages... But, the shot form is a dead virus, and that is the one that we can have.  As a matter of fact, with our RA- compromised immune systems, I believe that we are in the first category to get them.  Check with your doc.  I know that between the RA and the fact that I work with infants and young children, it is pretty imperative that I get the vaccine.  I also will make sure my son gets it, because of his diabetes, and he is also in the first age catergory, 6 to 24.     I hope you can get back on the enbrel, there is just too much help available for you to suffer through the way you do!  You deserve to feel so much better!

Guess I've rattled on here far too long.....kids are  taking nice long naps today!!  Yeah!

Gosh, yes Christmas!! The stores are already selling decorations and wrapping paper I'm barely thinking Thanksgiving at this point, let alone Christmas!!! and not only that, but the weather! We have recieved so much snow in some areas, on the news it showed children building snowmen I'm thinking to myself, it isn't even Halloween, and we are building snowmen.....Yesterday it was barely 38 degree's and my hips and knees are really feeling the cold weather.

Jody...I'm sure your Christmas get togethers are always very family oriented and that your future daughter in law?  will feel very welcome and at home with all of you

I need to contact my doctor and see about these vaccines, but I have been so busy that I even missed last months vitamin b 12 injection, so now I'm coming due for this months shot.  It seems I just meet myself coming and going and can't seem to keep up with anything!  I could use another vacation!

Golitho..how was your daughter's soccer tournament? I'm so sorry to hear about the funding cuts with your school, what grade do you teach??? I hope your Humira kicks in soon and that your pain eases up as well.

 

Golitho...Some of the soccer parents sound horrid! worse than cheer parents....My daughter starts competitions this weekend and I have to admit there are some teams with parents that blow loud horns and are extremely obnoxious It just makes you cringe! But for the most part, the parents are really nice and respectful of all teams competing, and as for the judges, it just depends on what they are looking for at any given competition.  My daughter is starting to stress since she is flying this time around, and has been working on her leg extensions, which to me she is doing just fine, but then I have the flexibility of an elephant.  I'm glad it went well for your daughter and she now has a boost of confidence for future tournaments.

As far as your pain goes, I hope you have a call in to your rheumy? I'm sorry your pain is getting worse and sounds like a true flare.  I know what you mean when you say there is a heater type pain inside your hips, that was the first pain I had with my hips before my MTX really kicked in well.  It is absolute misery Please try to rest as much as possible this weekend, and let us know how you are feeling.

 

oh no!  I missed Hump Day!!    Still always makes me think of Mom and Bear...even after all this time..haha.

Sorry, haven't meant to bug out again...having a bit of a rough time.  The enbrel just isn't kicking in this time like I had hoped, and have had some hard days...oh well, comes with the territory..right? Having to miss exercise is the worst part for me!!  Just hate that!!  Not only does it make me feel worse, physically, I don't get the stress relief and my whole mood suffers. But then, I guess a flare kind of puts us in  downer mood all by itself, doesn't it

Mom, did you check out the enbrel, by the way?  I sure hope you can get back on it!!   Did you get your son back home?So sorry about your weather!!!  Did your dirive go ok?  I saw on the news all these pictures of snowy Denver and thought of you..yuck!  It's just way too early for all of that.  Though, I wish we would cool down some here!  We were supposed to hit records today, at least 90 degrees!  I hate having to run the air condtioner when it's almost Novemeber.

Golito...are you feeling any better?  I sure hope so!  Have thought alot about you too. my right side has been on fire , from the wrist to the toes...and every place in between..No fun at all.  Guess some parents are the same, no matter the place or the sport!   Our boys played baseball, and sometimes, I swear, I just wanted to tell some of them to leave!  Screaming and cussing at the umps, the coaches....or worse ever their own kids!  I hated it when we played certain teams, because some were so much worse than others.  Couldn't believe grown adults could act like that....awful.  Kids were better off when they could just play by themselves in the empty fields next door, with rugs for bases, etc, and making up their own rules.   Adults just had to get involved and mess the whole thing up.

We are still waiting on my mom...unfortunately.  The radiologist that was supposed to do her biopsy didn't feel comfortable grying to get it on Friday.  Said that  the spot was too close to her heart, and that  she was coughing up phlem, and that he was afraid she had a touch of puenmonia. So, they put her on anitbiotics and steroids, and will try again in about 4 weeks.   More waiting! 

better, go, time for the little ones to have their afternoon snack.....I will check in again,sooner, I promise...Higs to you all!
