Remicade... Premeds?

Oh the joys of Remicade.......

So now after I get my remicade I seem to get sick, like I have the flu. I'm hot, then cold. I get a Migraine like you wouldn't believe. I feel like throwing up and it takes me a week after getting my remicade to recover from getting it!!

So I'm wondering what pre-med you all get? I get tylenol and Atarax(cause I can't take benedryl) Do you think the addition of solumedrol might help?

Right now I'm so fed up with the drug and my rhuemy's poor attitude and unwillingness to work with me and try to figure out what to do about me feeling so bad after getting remicade.

Hi RunAround,

I take Humira and I suffered the same type of symptoms at first and was told to take an anti-histamine before my shot and drink plenty of fluids that day. It helped keep the symptoms away and I no longer need to take the ant-hist, I just drink plenty of water now.

Ask your Rheumy about being able to take an ant-hist.

I only had remicade 3 times but was given an anti histamine as well as a medrol infusion, I still felt rotten and had trouble breathing aftermy last one. They had to give IV steroids about 3 bags. I think I was awake for 3 days afterwards but I didn't feel sick. So maybe the steroid or medrol would be the answer for you. Also getting them to slow the infusion is suppose to help too. Its the nasty mouse protein, Its not agreeing with you.
