Ladies, does anyone know if methotrexate can affect your cycle?

Hi, I have been on methotrexate for 6 months now for RA, and it hasn't been too bad (only a few side effects). Howver I was just wondering if methotrexate can have an affect on your periods? I have always had a very regular cycle with no problems but this month I am late. I am not pregnant (this was the first thing I checked as I was so worried) and I can't think of any reason for this. Can methotrexate cause this and has anyone else had similar experiences? Im quite worried as its so unusual for me and don't really know what to do. Please let me know if you've heard of this happening.

I've not had a natural period for 6 and half year due to PCOS but take Norethisterone 3 times a day for a week every 3months to have 2 bleed to shed my womb lining because before took this lining built up so bad I had a heamorrage. Before mtx used to come on 6days after stopping pills without fail and was relatively light. I now come on and day going and am really heavy then just stop so i'm just guessing but the mtx could be a factor to your lateness. Maybe phone ur dr on Monday? Go well X

It can. I have a nurses drug references and one of the things it mentions for Methotrexate is irregular or "bad" periods.
Prednisone will also mess up your cycle if you are or have been on that recently.

Great! Such a toxic drug, no wonder it can mess up your cycle. I lost my ovaries last year they'd both gone glandular and nasty and had to be taken out. Now I'm wondering if my RA meds had any affect on them???

Hormones are known to have an affect on RA, low estrogen can cause flares, so be careful, best wishes, golitho
