Did any of you with JRA experience a flare up with a growth spurt?

My DS only had a problem with the right wrist and maybe a finger or two for the past 5 years.  Out of no where DS grew close to 3 inches since August and has had multiple joints affected from ankles to knees to toes to fingers since summer.  I am just wondering is puberty is playing a role here.  He is twelve.
