I've taken both methotrexate and leflunomide separately, but about
2 wks ago I started taking them together and I'm feeling really sick. I'm taking 10 mg. methotrexate and 20 mg leflunomide daily. The diarrhea and stomach pains have been horrible. Is there any way to reduce those side effects without adjusting the dosage? My arthritis is really severe and doesn't respond to most medications or the side effects are too serious, so I really need this combo to work. Any advice?

Call your doctor. He/she may have some suggestions, and he/she needs to know what you are going thru. Maybe you need to start at a lower dose of one or the other. Did you start them both at the same time at the current dosage?

I was on this mix a few years back and it made me ill too, wiped out my white blood cells. Maybe for some of us its a combination too toxic to handle. I'd speak to your rheumy and let them know whats happening.
Best wishes, golitho

Methotrexate is supposed to be taken only weekly.
