Shaking Hands

   I have what I think is a strange problem.  anyway, it is new to me.  I am confused by   it. 
Anyone else here suffering from shaking hands?  I did not notice it till friends and hubby said that when Iwas eating - holding a fork/spoon my hands were shaking so much.,  Now, I am aware that when I read a book , hold the phone sometimes even when I type etc my hands shake.

 I have had RA for some time, taken just about all the meds out there.  Currently on Plaquinil 200mg 2x day, 5mg pred, Darvon 65mg 20mg Bextra and recently added Humira 1 40unit shot every 7 days.  The humira helps! The shakes were here before the humira, actually after I stopped the Enbrel and was only on the other stuff.  I suffer from RA, PA Fibro and whole list of other problems associated with Immune system problems, and the effects of the meds, much like most of us.

 As you may or may not know I have had lots of problems in the past 2 yrs, read my story it is on this site, and I am wondering if all of this stuff is causing the shakes.

  I  know you guys arent docs, but sometimes, I have found in "talking" with other sufferers we can answer this type of question better than the docs. I of course,will tell me Rheumy and my Ortho Surgeon when I see them both early in April.  It is disturbing that yet something else is attacking me.

We have had lots going on here, IL passed away about a month ago after a long painful illness, e have bought a new home, sold our current condo, preparing to make settlement and move within the month, so all of this may have something to do with the shakes, ya think?

elaine, i would definitley inform the doc. the DMARDs for RA can cause nervous system disorders which would be characteristic of trembling hands. also a good idea to get your fasting blood sugar checked or creatinine clearance (urine in 24 hours) because prednisone and certain other drugs for pain or inflammation can make your blood glucose levels fall and therefor you become hypoglycemic (fatigue, shakes, trembly hands, dizziness). have you ever had a history of seizures? or family history? muscle weakness may cause hand tremors too. i know it's a pain in the butt, but it might be worth getting checked out by a neurologist if they persist or get worse. hopefully it's just from being overstressed! i am so glad humira has helped you. did you notice a better improvement from humira than the enbril? i'm thinking about changing drugs if the rheumy ok's it. keep track of this trembling. hope i've been some assistance. i hope you recieve some answers soon. take care. happy easter! erin

Hi guys, I think you all know what I'm going to say. Please talk to your doc about those symptoms. It's very scary, but the new biologics can cause nervous systom problems like multiple sclerosis. I have had this scare because I had changes in vision and I'm still not cleared. Not okayed to be back on Humira yet. I loved it!! Wish I could still take it. Haven't felt like that in years. Just be careful. Check with the doctor and see. When I took meds for premature labor I shook each morning and it subsided eventually. Other meds can cause this without it being a nuerological issue. I hope so. I just worry.

You sound A LOT like a patient with Lyme disease. These guys are told during the many years they endure this disease without knowing that they have lupus, MS, RA, GERD, anxiety, depression, unknown nerve damage causing tremors and shakes, bone and muscle pains, etc. I will tell you to get checked for Lyme from a doctor who knows about that. Look at one of the selected postings at the main page of healingwell.com from ltgirl about Pain, Lyme? She describes completely the full list of symptoms (all of which you have). Few doctors are good at this and the labs are terrilbe and she explains that and where to find a doctor and the good labs. Do not go to a regular doctor to be checked because they do not know and the labs are miserable. The test needs to be done in one or two of the specialized labs in the US (such as IGenex in Palo Alto, CA). The lyme disease foundation or the lyme disease association have referal requests for doctors fully educated about lyme close to you. ILADS.org is the best resource for this. Good luck

Nanny, welcome. I would go and get it looked at. If your regular MD doesn't want to do anything, ask for a referral to a neurologist. It is better to find out then to keep worrying and thinking about it. Keep it touch. My prayers are with you.

good evening

well i got dressed yesterday and went to the doctor....i signed in and sat there for about fifteen minutes..the receptionist said ms.shirley..i say yes..what are you here for....i said you called me to remind me i was to come today...we are sorry, but it is next thuesday...i thanked her and left..told her i would see her then.....got up this morning ate boiled egg and took my med....and got reflux real real bad....had to call dr.and go back in...i have an esopahgus problem .  it is to narrow and has a pouch that causes acid reflex.  well for two hours i geratated hot water ....it just came up....five min. at a time.  i took two nexium and pepic ac and they came up....all at different times......bought some half and half and dranked a little of that and it came up...it wasnt vomiting....it was burping and it coming on out....my throat is burning from the acid...but anyhow i feel better than i did.....

thank you all for your concern and i am concerned about all of you other wise i would not be on this....it is a very sweet and kind board...and i reallly am doing better than what i had been doing.  i have come a long way....and this board helps me to keep the fear down some....

 Havent been around for a while, sorry.,   Wehave moved,and have been busy with that.  But I wanted to tell you that the shaking hands seem to have stopped!  I spoke with the doc about 4 weeks ago, and he said it was probably just themeds, but to keep an eye on it.  He works closly with my PCP, and they t

both think it is nothing to worry about at this time. Definately not Parkinsons.  No lyme in my future or past, I am housebound in a chair, so outside playing in the dirt or hiking for me!

 

I am in a major flareup of my RA today, have been for a few days.  Finally called the doc today, he said I should take my prednisone as if it were a dosepack.  So, today I took 35mg, tomorrow 30mg, then 25, 20, 15, 10 and finally back to 5 which is where I have been for a long time  Not sure what caused this flare up, but I have to say I dont remember when i felt this rotten.  I am very fatigued and sore!  35 mg of Pred helped with the fatigue, but not the pain.  I dont feel like "superwoman" yet,but figure by the weekend I will!

 

We are happily almost settled in our beautiful new rancher, with wide doorways andlower light switches and no steps except for from the front door and the garage.  I have had a ramp built so I can go out thru the garage, andwith pt I am learning to go out the 2 wide front steps out front on a walker.  PT says i am not functional at all without the chair - and this is as good as it is going to get!  I expected it, just not this soon.  OUr new home is in an "Active Adult Community" read: 55+  NO KIDS!  Which for us is great.  Our kids are grown, and if we ever have g-kids they will be allowed to visit and stay over for short stays but not allowed to live here.  This house is bright and sunny so I dont mind not being able to get out!

 

It is good to be back, and once again, please excuse me for not writing sooner.  trying to get settled and get over the death of mil after along illness.  getting settled in a new house in a wheel chair is not easy, have had to rely on other for lots of things.  Hubby works flull time, so he is notmuch help.

Elaine, sound like a beautiful house. I'm sure the next house I move into will be a bungalow. Hard to find a nice one in the city as most new houses are 2 story. Bungalows take up too much land. Wish you pain free days. Keep working on the walker. I had a resident who was in a wheelchair who over the course of a year was able to get up and walking. Sure it was more will (read stubborn) than way but here she is 6 months later and still walking. Not super but for her it was a miracle. Hope a miracle comes your way. Even if only for a short jaunt to the porch and back once a day. Does your porch get the morning or afternoon sun? I love sitting in the morning sun as it is peaceful and not that hot.

Hi Elaine, I live in Kitchener, Ontario. about a hour south west of Toronto. Small compared to some cities but big enough for me. We have about 200,000 people. The Region of Waterloo (comprised of 3 cities and out lying townships) is now hiting the 1/2 million mark. We are very rapidly losing farm land. I live in a new subdivision. We moved in here about 1 year ago. First anniversary is actually next Tues. At the end of my road is a corn field but if the developer gets their way it will hold 180 single family homes within 2 years. As I said we are developing very quickly.
Arthritis is holding well these days. Some pain and stiffness but what can I expect. For years I was hoping that if I took the right med I could be essentially pain free and not even know that I had arthritis. I have since learned a pipe dream. I don't think I will ever be pain free again. Kind of depressing when I stop to think that I could have over 50 more years to live. I just turned 30 but if I listen to my body in the am. I feel about 60 or 70. recently been worse but my hubby and I put in a deck on the weekend and I have been spending a few hours getting the front garden ready to plant. My body is telling me I have way over done it. Working 6 shifts in 7 days starting on Sat. So Will probably be cursing myself for agreeing to it by next weekend. The paycheck will be worth it though.
Hope the walking keeps getting better. The sun room sounds beautiful. Does it get hot in the room? Never really spent much time in a sunroom.

Hey guys,

All of my symptoms actually started with a concern for shakey hands. They called it intention tremors. They are still there, no worse no better and for a while there was concern about MS but that fell through when everyone decided I was crazy. Now that that is gone maybe I ought to bring it up again huh? Anyhow, my problem occurs when I reach for things or am trying to do intricate things. I drop stuff a lot but it is before I actually get a hold on them. Let me know if you all get any real information on this.
