Relafen

Relafen did nothing for me but neither did any of the others NSAIDS. I took many different ones in the early days and none of them even started to touch my pain.  I needed the DMARDS and pain medication, even Plaquenil and Enbrel to begin making a difference.  If your RA is severe enough it won't help.

NSAIDs do work for me, they worked better with dmards...I was on Plaquenil and Methotrexate. I was on Plaquenil for 27 years which is 20 years longer than I should have been on it. That combined with the fact that my ophthalmologist who checked my eyes every year failed to do a real plaquenil exam, and after 16 years of telling them I was having visual problems both my rheumatologist and ophthalmologist insisted it was vascular and not the plaquenil and to stay on it. Well, then I went to another optho and found out I had advanced Plaquenil Toxicity. I am losing my eyesight, plus have visual disturbances, whirling circles, dots, flashes, all kinds of things in my visual field which I can hardly see through. I am through with dmards. I figure Relafen is pretty much the same as the other NSAIDs I have been on, but the biggest difference was taking it once a day, and am wondering if it works the same if you split the dosage. I do not have gastrointestinal problems, and take Prilosec for acid reflux that is unrelated to the meds, but figure that will help out with it anyway. I am taking curcumin and osteo-biflex plus an NSAID since I went off MTX, and my RA has not gotten any worse.

Relafen or Nambumetone i think is a third generation NSAID (maybe 2nd, but last round before COX-2 Inhibitors), positives are less GI adverse effects so better for everyday use while still maintaining potency of Diclofenac or Indocin. most say it is weak but you can go to 1500mg/day. once or twice a day is probably a thing you will discover. once i was perscribed 1000mg in a.m. and 500mg p.m.. Daypro (oxaprozin) and Lodine (etodolac) are also in this generation. another option maybe Dolobid (diflunisal) which is a close relative to asprin but less GI adverse effects and longer half-life, it has some potency to it. Mobic (meloxicam) works for some but it does not seem to have any punch to me. the best i have ever been on for any long period was Arthrotec (diclofenac/misoprostol), misoprostol is a postaglandin analog that protects the mucus lining of the stomach. it cost a lot but you but you can purchase each in generic Cytotec gen.-misoprostol, Volteran gen.-diclofenac sodium
