Okay, so tomorrow is MTX (methotrexate) day, and I'm so stressed out about it...
does it truly ever get better giving yourself these injections???? for me it's been on
again off again for the mtx due to me either being sick or other medical reasons...
so I'm still so new to all this and I just hope to Take enough folic acid this time,
last time did .4 1/2 and it cause some nausea and I think due to not enough folic acid
and I'm trying to get the water intake as well and that can make me feel ill....
with the sjogren's being so bad for me I literally go for saline IV once a month...
it's just heck in a hand basket y'all....how do y'all cope, plus the mtx also effects
my moods it makes me more angry person...mtx is the only thing i can take for
my sero negative RA, as my doctor will not do any other medicine as I do tend
to get sick easy and I've had pneumonia 4 times in my life, last time 2010....
I just wish this would get easier...

Is it the shots of MTX or just the MTX in general that is bothering you? MTX is available in pill form, you don't have to struggle with the shots. I don't know how long you have been on the MTX, but it took about a month before the horrid side effects subsided. It was rough going that first month, but at some point you should be adjusting to your dose. Have you tried Plaquenil it isn't as harsh as MTX and has way less side effects, also Arava is another that I *believe* is similar to the MTX. Sorry to hear you are so miserable.

Thank you, momto3, yes it's injection. Doctor won't try me on the pills at all...I've had
2 bleeding ulcers in the past, so injections can by-pass the stomach which is good...
Tried the plaquenil, not a success...but the Arava might be a consider...I'll look it up and see
what that medicines is Thank You, your so very kind...

Chartreux sound like you need to vamp up that immune system. I would start doing some research on what supplements help with that and what foods. Believe me I'm doing it all and it does help! Don't ever give up and the more educated you get the better off you are. Heck I sometimes tell my doctor stuff that he must have forgotten because sometimes he is surprised when I say something. But that is ok...it MY LIFE and MY BODY and nobody knows it better than me...good luck!

I had a nurse tell me to try Fish oil? She swears by it, but obviously, your rheumy should offer this advise.

It's worth a try..I remember someone on here tried the Arava because they couldn't handle the MTX and it seemed to work well. Anything is worth a try, right? Someone mentioned the Fish Oil, and I take it, but haven't really noticed a decrease in joint pain.  Do you think it might be something you are eating? Last night I had spaghetti with sauce and wouldn't you know it, horrid joint pain before bed! I just cannot eat tomato sauce based foods for whatever reason.

Fish oil, I've been on that about 2 years now...I think it helps more with the heart than the RA ...
Did my injection, in my thigh seems to be better for me when I do my leg than my stomach area...
I'm so small, that when I pinch the stomach area I'm kinda afraid I might get the intestines...so
maybe if I stick to the leg area that would be better for me...overall...and I did more folic acid today as well
that seems to be helping...my stress is better for now,...next one is in May....I can't do every week yet...
going to work toward that...
Thanks, I will ask the doctor about Arava, should I not be able to get the mtx up to .5 before my next RA
appointment...

Hi Char, After I had the hysterectomy I didn't want to inject my stomach area with my humira so the nurse told me to keep the injection at a good angle so it stays subcutaneous. That way it doesn't hurt the leg so much, now I'm back to the stomach I keep it at the same steep angle, so it stays in that "fat" layer.

Maybe you could get a local nurse to give you the same tips, she really helped me.

I hate doing the jabs too but it is easier now than it was.

I forgot to drink my water yesterday with my mtx and I have the worst headache today. It was a cold day and bizarrely I just forgot to drink.

Very sorry to hear that you are not doing so well during this time Chartreux.  Arava worked okay for me for a while the first time around but not the second time.  Good wishes in it working for you but hoping first that you are able to get the MTX dosage higher without further consequence, if it works for you.  I haven't been dxd. with Sjogrins yet(although I have some symptoms and use drops) but I don't like the sounds or symptoms of it, for sure.  Good vibes to you in feeling better.
