starting Prednisone

I am just starting a 5 mg daily dose of Prednisone and I am concerned with gaining weight. I have lost 25 lbs in the last 4 months and wish to keep the weight off. Anyone out there willing to share any weight busting strategies while taking this drug? My Rheumy said that it would only be a bridge until the MTX kicked in, but in the meantime he found out that my liver enzymes are elevated, probably because I was taking NSAIDS and Celebrex for pain (not at the same time). I asked for something to tide me over until my labs get repeated in 2 weeks. I have more weight to lose and was discouraged to hear that most people gain weight on Prednisone.

Good on you for losing the 25 pounds. Congrats!

I doubt very much that you will gain weight on 5mgs of Pred. I've been on 5-7mgs. for quite some time and have gained 0. In fact, I've lost weight. It's normally those who are on higher doses and longer than you will be on it, that gain weight.

I have been on MTX for a long period of time. One of the side effects of MTX is loss of appetite.

Hopefully your labs come back better in 2 weeks.

I don't think you need to worry about gaining wait on that dosage. You should be fine:)
