This has been one heck of a week! My IBS kicked in Sunday night around 11:30 I was up all night with diarrhea and throwing up. The next day I was still hard at it and finally I started feeling some better. Tuesday I was so weak I couldn't hardly get around then Wednesday it started back up around 1in the morning and stayed with me all day again. In the past I was just sick for a few hours and no real pain in my stomach. This time was totally different. The pain was excruciating and the weakness was worse too. Could it have been worse this time because of the RA? Does anyone else has IBS and RA? Does having RA cause the IBS to feel different or make you sicker? I finally was able to eat a little food today and it was not easy on the stomach. I am still having some pain but I am hoping I am over the worse part for now!

Hi Glea, I have RA and Crohn's Disease. My RA does not effect my CD in any way. What types of meds do you take for your IBS and
for your RA?

I take MTX injections for the RA and loads of Zantac for the IBS. Since my last post I am feeling better. It finally settled down somewhat. I haven't had a problem with the IBS for several months it hit me and I was in the bed for three days. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Glea,

Like teddy, I have Crohn's, but my arthritis is related to my Crohn's. Could your episode have been food poisoning? I ask because of the vomiting. I think I must have a very sensitive stomach because I've had food poisoning or food poisoning-like episodes probably 15+ times in my life, involving diarrhea, vomiting and/or multiple days of stomach pain. Some of these were pre-Crohn's, some after.

I would hesitate to say that the IBS and RA are related, primarily because IBS is not an autoimmune condition, but I could be wrong.

I'm not sure. But before when my IBS flared up i was very sick. I have always thrown up and diahrea at the same time just never as much pain. Thanks for the comments it could have been food poisoning. Not sure if I ever want to go through that again. I have been under a lot of stress lately so that could have something to do with it as well.

Hi Glea stress does aggravate IBS and also Crohn's. Any time there
is a lot of stress it can aggravate your IBS.

The stress I think has really caused my IBS to be extremely bad. Thanks for all the thoughts and replies. Love this forum!

I have RA and have had it for 25 years. When my RA flares up I get IBS bad. I have to be very careful what I eat.
