I Think I'm Still in Denial

It's taken me years to get a dx over 15 yrs and I still do not understand all of it...I got a book today which might help you as well "Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis" by Tammi L. Shlotzhauer M.D. and James L. McGuire M.D. and it's been very eye opening so far and hopefully will make me a better patient.
Glad your not so sore, that could mean medications are helping you.
Also, it's not easy to get a diagnosis for a disease which you'll have to take medications for the rest of your life, so on those terms it can be very easy to dismiss or deny...

Hi I'm  heading into 25yr diagnosed 30 in pain and I still ask my Rheumy Are You Sure?

I think because we can't see it and its not treatable like cancer or other disease's e.g. either treat it and get better or Die, I know that sounds bad but I hope you know what I mean other diseases' have a start and end (good or Bad) but we seem to just toddle on

So No I don't think your Odd and its good to Question things you never know one Question might lead to a surprise outcome or treatment

I too had symptoms for over 5+ years and my doctor flip flopped around and kept telling me he couldn't find anything wrong with me. Then 2 months ago he finally sent me to a Rheumy and I was quickly diagnosed after tests and xray that showed erosion in both my hands and feet. Even though I already suspected RA, I was still in disbelief and shock actually hearing it. Then I went trough a month of being very angry at my family doctor for not recognizing the possibility of RA over five years ago, and having a diagnosis early before the bone erosion happened. I actually asked him 3 years ago, if i might have RA. He asked me why I thought that? I told him because of all my symptoms and that my father also had RA (my dad later developed Leukemia and passed away) My doctor told me that RA does not run in families and dismissed me. Some times I still want to punch him. I am now 2 months into my diagnosis and have accepted this and am working hard to educate myself and do everything I can to continue a healthy lifestyle, because I really worry now about the future, and how long Im going to be able to work and how I could ever afford the biologic's if I ever need them.

I think getting any diagnosis is like dealing with a death. You go through the stages of shock & denial, anger, grievance and then acceptance. Its a hard pill to swallow.
