I started the once a week injections of Embrel. After the fifth one, I noticed, among other side effects, tingling in my left arm and right leg. After repositioning, the tingling goes a way and is on and off throughout the day. After speaking to my Rheumy, he told me to stop but now wants me to start again. I resisted going on it for two years before finally giving in because my mother had MS. He wants me to see a neurologist and says it is not related to Embrel. My questions are, 1) is this a normal side effect or should I worry about MS? 2) Is this a result of the progression of RA and not related to Embrel? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

That's a good question Dave. I've been experiencing what you described for years. I've been on biologics for 15 years, but not just enbrel. I don't think it's necessarily an indicator of MS. I don't know what it comes from. I've always kind of ignored it. Maybe I should mention it to my doctor. I'd be interested in knowing what your doctor says. Sorry I'm not much help.

Thanks for your reply. Just curious if you remember it starting shortly after beginning injections and has it got worse or stayed the same over the years? I go back to rheumy in a week so I will let you know what he says. He wants me to see a neurologist, but seeing all these specialist gets really expensive especially at the beginning of the year. I think it started some years after starting the biologics. It seems to come and go with no rhyme or reason that I can put together. Sometimes I'll have it for a few months and then it will go away for a while and it will pop up again for a few weeks or more. Of all the things I keep track of I've never kept track of that, but I will now. I haven't ever brought it up because I've always been juggling the arthritis as well as Crohns. Sometimes I pay so much attention to things that they can't ever figure out what's what and so I just think they won't know what to do with this and I'll have to go through a bunch of expensive tests for them to tell me they don't know what it is. I also don't want then taking me off the biologics because I really need them. I'll bring it up at my next appointment and let you know what they say. Hope you get it figured out! Keep me posted!
