Hi trustingGod,
Hang in there :) No, you are not insane and yes it does make sense to me. I too have some food intolerance; mainly corn or anything with corn syrup in it as well as sugar to a lesser degree.
That said; I was on Enbrel for 12 years and it helped me immensely. I was not able to stand or walk when I started taking it and in 12 years I never went through that again. It was an incredible drug for me.
I don't know your situation but I was not able to work or do just about anything when I started taking it. I was scared.. petrified of the side effects (This was in 99 shortly after it was released and I had to sign a waiver of my rights to sue) but my quality of life was such that I was at that point that I was willing to give it a try regardless of my sensitivities or the side effects. I am glad I did.
You may be in a different place and if that is the case maybe you should insist on other alternatives. My experience with RA over the last 20 years tells me though that if the Doctor is recommending biologics then you have failed some of the other more traditional methods of fighting RA. If that is the case and you are suffering with RA and its symptoms I hope you will give it a try at least. I hope that it eases your suffering and that you have peace in your decisions regardless of which way you decide to go.
I have found that a balanced approach of meds as well as diet changes have made a pretty good impact on my disease. Yet one or the other by themselves don't seem to help enough.
God Bless!
