Humira support/encouragement needed.

I started Humira a few months ago and have no side effects!

Is it your first biologic? I was on Enbrel for five months and was pretty anxious before the first dose. I called my mom before I gave myself the shot and then called her again afterwards. That helped a lot. I also put the info packet right next to where I sleep thinking that if the paramedics had to come for me in the middle of the night, at least they'd know why.

If you want, we can set up a time where you can post here before and after, and I'll (virtually) hold your hand.

ETA: Ice is your friend. I ice my upper thigh for about five minutes before the shot and a few minutes again afterwards. It helps a lot.

The shot wasn't nearly as bad as I'd anticipated. I asked for the autoinjector and you can't even see the needle. You can search for autoinjector on Google Images and you'll see what it looks like.

Enbrel started working within the first week and by the next "shot day" I wasn't even nervous.

Hi I only used Humira for a little while But I was told to put ice pack on the area you are going to jab Before You do it this numbs the area a bit and the pen type needle isn't too bad , just don't freak-out and stop half way or you will not get the correct dose ( yes I did that the first time )
and Don't Rub it after just put the ice pack on it.
once you do start make sure to have your regular blood tests done

Hang in there trusting! I have been taking injectibles for about 15 years now and they really are not bad. I suggest taking them in the stomach areas at least for me that is the least unpleasant and really is hardly noticeable pain wise. Think about this; RA and what it will do to you untreated over the long haul can be a living hell. I thank God for the new meds that are on the market these days. They give me a chance to live without so much pain and the crippling deformity that comes along with it.

My dad had RA and by my age he was really crippled up. I think the reason I am not nearly as bad as he was is because mine was treated so aggressively so early in the game. He didn't have even close to the options that we do today. Take care!

Hello Everyone...I still Trusting but haven't taken that injection yet LOL..I'm actually have a second opinion on Thursday the 23rd. And if she says I need it. I'm going to take it and Trust God to see me thru. As you can see anxiety can get the best of me at times. I'll let you know what the new doc says.

Thank you everyone for your encouragement and your patience. On Saturday 11/0/14 I gave myself my Humira injection. I call my Humira and they sent a wonderful nurse to help me. I did just find, I had some anxiety after waiting for something bad to happen but I just walked it out. I felt a little foggy in my head but that was probably my anxiety. I have only experienced dry mouth and I am hopeful that It will bring my numbers down.

UPDATE: Tomorrow I will take my 3rd injections. 3 days after the first one I was pain free. When I went to my doctors apt last week, she took me off the other 3 meds.

I have had RA for at least ten years. Started Humira about a year after diagnosis and it actually reversed bone damage. I am currently taking enbrll and methotrexate. I am able to live a normal life and I love to Zumba! I am 52 and have a 7 yr old granddaughter. While having RA changes your lifestyle, it doesn't have to control it with amazing new treatment options. Hang in there, and expect great results to continue.
