I have been having joint pain for years now and am a 54 year old female. For the past 4 years or so I have suffered from plantar fasciitis, bursitis in my hips, and pain in my joints mainly from my hips down but also have a trigger finger and pain in hands.
I have an appointment set for a Rheumatologist but can't get in until July 2016. (Ridiculous) In the mean time I am searching, I am looking for any kinds of self help to alleviate some of the pain. Anyone have tips or resources?

Heat, muscle rubs, and simple flexing and stretching exercises help me.

My PCP prescribed high dose NSAIDs - they caused me too much stomach trouble, celebrex gave me prolonged (two month) menstrual bleeding so I couldn't take them but they are worth a try. Talk to your referring doctor, that is too long to go without any form of pain relief. I ended up on hydrocodone during the worst bout when I was many months from seeing the specialist, was on tramadol before and then later after that very bad spot passed - I needed to be able to go to work and stay upright, between painkillers and prednisone we made it work (it wasn't fun but it worked)

Yep, talk to you referring Doc, that is far to long a wait to have without any relief. Also, sometimes you can call the Rheumatologists office and ask to pick up any cancellations they may have. This was how I was able to get in to see mine the first time. They do have cancellations especially for new patients. Waiting 5 months is ridiculous, I am saddened to hear that.

I hope that your primary can help you in the meantime.
