traveling with Enbrel

Hello

This is my first time here.  I have RA and on Enbrel.  I am traveling by air from Montana to North Carolina. I have the travel cooler provided by Wyeth, but am concerned that the medication won't stay at the proper temperature for the duration of the trip.  Has anyone traveled with Enbrel and do you have any suggestions for ensuring the "safe" arrival of the medication?

Hey Sandusky - Welcome to Healing Well! I am on Enbrel also and I have traveled with it. I flew from Charleston SC to Long Beach CA and it was fine. I just wrapped the box of Enbrel with a small hand towel and put 2 of the ice packs that they get mailed with in the cooler and it was good to go. I did the same thing on the flight back. As long as you've got the ice packs in there, you'll be fine! Good luck to you, be safe on your trip and let us know how it went! - Duck

I've travelled as with Enbrel using the blue travel pack. There were no problems, but if I were flying, I would probably have it with me in my carry-on bag. And refridgerate it when you arrive.

Ducky and Craig are right on with there info.I to have traveled as well but I'am on Humira and i do as they do and I have had no problems with it either,so as they say you will be just fine with it.Oh and have a safe trip.

Welcome Sandusky!

The Enbrel travel pack should be good enough with the ice pack.  Also, since the airlines are really strict now...if you have a written Rx of the Enbrel, perhaps bring that with you too.  I've known a few folks that had problems bringing insulin and syringes on flights...the security guys were asking for written documentation!  They were suspicious of what was in the syringes.  The medication will hold well at that temp in the cooler, it will remain stable as long as you do not leave it out at room temp for too long.

Anyone travel to Europe from US with Enbrel? Kept cool on the long flight?
