Hey Gang,

Thought I would pass this tidbit on. I have read alot on Imuran and it is also given for arthritis. We are on a much smaller dose than say someone thats had a kidney transplant. My ex-b-inlaw is on very high doses because of kidney transplant and has done great.

Secondly, this is going to crack you up. I was in PetMeds on line looking for something for my older golden's arthritis. He has terrible hips, poor baby. One of the prescription listed was believe it or not Imuran. Oh, I nearly fell out of my chair. I am thinking great, me & the dog can share my Imuran. Only kidding, I tend to do the natural route with him due to meds inducing seizures in my baby. My baby only weighs 125 and he is a big boy to say the least. But he came from a littler of 12, 6 each, all the boys took after their Momma & Daddy, very large pups. Then the little younger one tops in at 90lbs. When he showed up at my door he weighed a whopping 52lbs and was so skinny. He has made a very good boy too. Both think they are lap dogs. Once upon a time, when I could sit in the floor, one of them would come sit on me.

Ok, enough about my babies-but I thought us Imuran users could use a good laugh. Hugs, Susie

That is funny Susie! :) I just found out that my dog (golden retriever / chow mix) has arthritis too... The vet says to give her fatty acids... funny thing is, I take them too... :) guess we start to resemble our pets after all huh? LOL

Hah!  That's great.

@ my GI appointment last wednesday, he had upped my Imuran dose (to help the RA and CD arthritis better and for the Remicade prep).  And he mentioned that too!

"Yeah, dogs do very well on the drug."   LOL.

I was thinking, if it's good enough for his dog, it's good enough for me!

Seriously, I treat my Pea (my cat) like gold.  And when it comes to her health?  I would put a second mortgage on my home, work the graveyard shift @ Dunkin' Donuts....anything.

 

Question for Susie:

OK, rheummy had me on 25mg Imuran (he was treating me like an elderly because I'm underweight), but GI disagreed nono and put me to the 50mg daily.  Did you ever get VERY VERY pale/white or noticeable changes in skin color while on it?  I mean, I'm pale to begin with, but since starting it....it's ghostly, and cold?  Familiar? ... just wondering if it's common.

Wow who would have ever guessed.I had a dog (my baby) she was 20 bless her heart she only had two teeth left and and I had to result to feeding her baby food(you read it right)any way my dog was not feeling well and it was about time for her shot's as well and lord behold she was a diabetic.Talk about a shocker.Susie i did get a kick out of that.

Hi Erin,

I was started on 50mg when 1st put on it, then of course he upped me to 100 mg. As far as skin color change or anything like that I never noticed it. It would be nice if you could get a Prometheous test. It would show how your body metabolizes the Imuran. I can go up more if dr feels it necesary.

Well, there are more similarities between myself and my dog... we both have high cholesterol and we both have hypothyroidism... too funny

Thanks Susie!  That test you spoke of...my GI wants to do it in March.  He has the kit & showed it to me....pretty darn cool!  So I'm definitely having it done...he just wants to wait until there is, like you said, a therapeutic and measurable blood level.

Umh...my complexion I'm starting to enjoy actually! very Geisha like! yeah, I'm diggin' it as long as I'm not like anemic or anything.  Hmmmm....wow, people pay money to buy makeup to look like this!  

white agrees with me....looks great with red lipstick.
